Greetings all,

Cancer- I am sure we all have known someone personally (friends and/or family) or may even have cancer or a scare with cancer in our lives. I personally know of many people that have cancer, have had scares with cancer and have died from its complications. My father has cancer and I have lost many aunts and uncles to cancer of all types in my life time. Lately, I have been wondering, what is cancer? Where does it come from? Where did it originate? I have read many history books and the word 'cancer' was not mentioned or maybe I just missed it. Cancer is a more recent phenomenom that has destroyed lives of those who have it and those who are around them. It can totally disable a persons body in a matter of months and sometimes weeks. More money and good insurance can slow it down with medical treatments and medicines, but even that is a pain. I am also confused that we use the same 'laser and burn' techniques, which causes hair loss, burns, scars and other complications. Using 'cancerous laser rays' to combat cancer...seems kind of odd to me.

I know smoking causes cancer- but where do the other cancers come from? They say its hereditary- but when was cancer first discovered? Does it come from poor eating habits, lack of exercise, stress or something else?

Share with me your knowledge, thoughts, opinions and experiences.

I have my own opinions about all this... but there is actual fact floating around out there. Every one has cancer cells. Whether or not they get cancer depends on their body. Some people's immune system's can fight off the cancer cells with no problem. Other people's systems allow the cancer cells to mutate and multiply until they are out of control Many factors cause the breakdown of the body's immune system. Heredity, smoking, exposure to chemicals, you name it, it can probably cause a reaction that will allow a breakdown.
There are also cancer remedies out there. The AMA doesn't want people to know about them so they try and shut up the holistic practitioners out there that can inform the people about these amazing herbs and treatments. I'm not here to sell things and I don't push a certain modality. I do have a Master's degree in Natural Health, though, and do have access to alot of this information. Email me whatever, if you want some answers. If I don't have them I can direct you to people who do. Doctors today are amazing, but they can also be wrong. Money is a deceitful bedfellow when it comes to medicine. Are the doctors there to get rich or to help you? When you add in the insurance companies, the only people who lose are the ones that are ill and desperately seeking advice and help. The doctors and insurance moguls make out like bandits while that patients many times, get a life sentence.
There are answers out there.... are you willing to look for them?

My daughter had cancer when she was 3 years old- lucky for me - she survived and is going to be 20 years old soon. The first thing you ask the doctor is "where did she get it from?" I have no history of cancer on either side of our family. The doctor says that we all have cancer cells in our bodies- what triggers them to grow abnormally - no one is for certain. All cancer is - is abnormal cells in the body that grown, divide, and travel. The body tries to fight it and can't. Sometimes the treatment can kill people faster then the Cancer itself does. Sometimes I think it is the Goverments way of controlling population- they should have a cure by now- but too many people make money off of it. Just my opinion. Thanks!

Hey Josh,
My Dad had a cancer scare when he was 50yrs old-Prostate Cancer. My Dad's brother had prostate scare..In 1982 my Grandpa was told he had terminal cancer..I believe with early check-ups and proper screening people can live a long and fruitful life.My grandpa was unfortunate to die in 1983 at the age of 67 of bone Cancer..I do believe that cancer runs in the family and My family is a prime example of cancer hitting the males in my family..Cher

Josh, A great subject.
I have a family history of cancer that goes so far back. My dad had nine brothers and sisters, all but one died of some form of cancer. Some soon after they found out, other many many years.

Breast cancer, stomach cancer, bone cancer, blood cancer, liver cancer, spleen cancer, cervix cancer...etc.... the list goes on.

Recently I lost my sister whom they have yet to tell us if she had cancer. She died of kidney and liver failure, in three days. We heard some drs said she had stage four cervix cancer. We are in the process of getting her medical records. She was only 54 and didn't go to a doctor in like 20 yrs.

We had three years from the time, they told my dad he had cancer. He had spleen and liver cancer. Most of those three years were a living hell for him. He had one good week a month.

I had many friends that have had cancer.

I donated money I always give it to cancer research.....

It's one of my biggest fears.....

I'm no doctor but I found a web page that explains pretty good on the topic, "where does cancer come from?" The address is http://www.christiananswers.net/q-eden/cancer.html
I hope this helps somewhat of your understanding. My son, Ryan, died just this past April 6th from a very rare and aggressive cancer called "desmoplastic small round cell tumor" or DSRCT for short. My mother had cancer 3 times - ovarian, skin, and breast. But, thank god she did survive them all. Cancer can be deadly but, depending on what type, if one catches it in time, they can survive with the help of chemotherapy +/or radiation. Unfortunately, Ryan had only a 10% chance for survival due to the fact that it is so very rare. Only 150 people in the world has ever had this specific type. I do know that stress is just one of factor that may bring on certain types of cancer. But, there are, of course, other factors of which I, too, am not familiar. The internet, honestly, if full of all kinds of information about cancer.

I have had some bad experiences with cancer. First my little brother died at the age of 14 with leukemia. The worst part was it was a form of the cancer that only adults were supposed to be able contract. The doctors could not tell us why he developed it. They did say that everyone has a cancer cell in their bodies and it lies dormant until something triggers it. With my little brother the doctors think it was his living conditions. He lived in a city where the air was polluted and his diet consisted mostly of fast food. He also played a lot of sports so the strain they took on his body was probably a factor too. My brother was the first case of cancer in our family history. My grandfather now has lung cancer. He smoked for well over 20 years and developed the cancer about 5 years after he quit. Now because of the lung cancer he has skin cancer too because one of the cells broke free from his lungs and embeded in his skin. I dont think there is a cure for cancer because doctors and researchers still dont understand the disease. Maybe and hopefully one day they will find a cure for it because I know what I saw my brother go through as far as the pain and suffering and no one should ever have to experience that.

Hi, Josh. You know, I'm 49 and back when I was a kid if someone had cancer it was rare. I don't ever remembering a family member / or family friends having cancer except for one uncle (by marriage).

Nowadays, it seems that almost every obituary in the newpaper families list thanks to hospices and doctors who did their best to keep their loved ones as comfortable as possible.

Here's my opinion(s): Back in the day we cooked with cast iron pans and pans that food stuck to. Nowadays we cook with non-stick pans, coated with Teflon, and whatever it is that makes the pans easy to clean. A convenience for us -- but in my opinion could cause cancer. I know that people in my church who have birds (parrots, etc.) and if they cook with Teflon pans their birds will die from the "gases" that are emitted just from heating the pans. If it does that to birds -- them just breathing the air when pans are heated up what does that mean to us as humans when we eat the food that has been prepared in those very same pans?

Also, if you have ever seen the DVD called "The Future of Food" -- a sort of "underground" DVD -- and see how the company called Monsanto has patents on ALL seeds that produce our food in the USA, i.e., corn, soy beans, wheat, corn, etc., their scientists have genetically altered the seeds so that they produce at a higher yield, are "Round-Up" ready seeds -- meaning they are very tolerant of weeds. We all know that "Round-Up" is a weed killer so making seeds that are tolerant to weeds makes me think everytime I have a sandwich, pasta, cereal, corn and all vegetables, not to mention all the animals that eat "feed" that are also grown from these same seeds! That means that our breads and cereals and pasta could be "contaminated" -- it means that cows, pigs, chickens, fish, etc., could also be contaminated (along with dairy products as well). That about covers ALL the food we eat!!!!

There are countries in the world who WILL NOT import seeds or grains from the USA because they know and are aware of all the experimentation that has been going on for years with the genetically spliced seeds. I've heard from many "experts" and chinese herbaligists that the people in the United States are the largest "guinnea pig" experiement that history will ever see. And so many of us are blind to it! I know I was before I started reading and saw that DVD.

And, just think of all the products we use for our skin (which, by the way, is the largest organ of the human body). Lotions, sprays, deodorants, perfume, soap, shower gel, etc., all get lavishly applied to many of our bodies and then absorbs into the skin -- to what extent and damage are all those products doing to us???

There is much more I could say on the subject of "where does cancer come from" but for lack of time I must stop here. Just my "food for thought" .... and yes, we still have to eat because our food chain is all connected but it makes me think twice when I do eat.

Money talks -- Monsanto (and the FDA and government, and lobbyists are all padding each others pocketbooks on this one). Best believe that!

ahhh...the perverbial question. speaking from a medical standpoint, cancer has been around for a very very long time. it is not mentioned in history books because "back in the day" it was often misdiagnosed. cancer, for lack of better terms, is an accelerated growth of abnormally shaped cells, clustered together. what causes cancer?? many thing. there are genes that have been linked to colon, breast and testicular cancers. other cancers are purely enviromental. look at all of the progress of men. we are putting chemicals in our foods, water, air. cancer has become more rampent as men progress because as we develop new chemicals, we don't know the ramifications until after. look at the A-bomb testing sites, maybe the radiation from those being spewn into the atmosphere has accelerated the spread of cancers. even the sun can cause cancer, but this is due to the ozone layer being deteriorated. it can be sexually transmitted (HPV). sadly, this trend will probally continue. when was it discovered? i want to say in the 1800's is when doctors first coined the term, but i am too lazy to google it or to look back in my A&P notes.
all i can say is that the BS that doctors tell you about eating right, getting enough sleep and exercise and trying to stay as unstressed as possible is true. the better health a person is in gives you better odds of not getting it, or if you do, recovering from it.
an interesting side note..while smoking has been linked to cancer, it isn't always the tobacco. it is the preservatives that is used in the drying process.
and of course, my last comment will cause a huge uproar, but, like they say in the movies..."Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn"

Hey there! I don't think I have ever commented on your blogs, but I do often read them... this time I had to respond. I have had many people I know fight cancer... some won, some are winning, and sadly, some lost. I was diagnosed with Stage II Melanoma this past August 2006. I was diagnosed only a month after the wife of a guy I know of passed away from the same type of cancer, only 14 months after she was diagnosed! However, even though melanoma is a very deadly form of skin cancer, it can be very curable in it's early stages, and since I was only in Stage II, they believed I would have to go through surgery to remove the remaining tumor and lymph nodes (to make sure it hadn't spread to the nodes) and possibly one round of chemo, more as a preventative measure. However, my lymph nodes looked so good, I didn't need the chemo, and my only preventative treatment is regular check-ups with my dermatoligist and oncologist, and LOTS of sunscreen!

Melanoma is a skin cancer that starts from exposure to UV rays and the sun. People of any race and any background are subject to this cancer, however some are more suseptable than others. There are four high-risk factors for skin cancers : fair skin, Irish heritage, red hair, and blue eyes. I have green eyes, but the rest of the factors I matched. However, I have NO family history of melanoma, but it is important to remember... IT ONLY TAKES ONE TO MAKE HISTORY!! I got off easy, but I call it my wake-up call. My life has since changed in every way, and I am taking better care of myself than I ever have... I have a new motto... Any day above ground is a GOOD DAY!

I sought my treatment at the University of Chicago Hospitals... and recieved the BEST, FIRST-RATE care I have ever recieved!! I cannot say enough good things about the professionals I encountered there... every person I came across was kind, knowledgable, helpful, patient, and very professional. They understood that my world was turned upside down in literally just a few weeks time (from the time I was diagnosed to the time I had surgery was 2 weeks, then it was another two weeks to find out I was in remission) and they helped me in every way possible (there are even financial programs to apply for to help with the expenses) I even have a cousin that works at the National Institute of Health (NIH) and he told me that if he had to seek cancer treatment in Chicago, it would definitely be at the University of Chicago Hospitals. I go for my 6 month check up with my oncologist there on the 3rd of July, and I am actually LOOKING FORWARD TO IT! Then again, I'm hoping he tells me I look so great that I don't have to see him for another year!

Oh... and it was just a mole... a little mole in the middle of my back that itched a bit... I finally saw a dermatologist for it, and had it removed and sent in for a biopsy. It is important to know that ANYTHING that is removed from your body should be sent in for biopsy, which is why people should never have anything "frozen off". So it was just that one little mole that turned my life upside down... and I know this may sound odd... but I thank God for that little mole!

Everyone has cancer cells in their body, they mutate in some people but not in others. Exposure to some things that are not good for your body can cause cancer to grow. This makes me wonder, is it possible the cancer cells grow to protect your body from the harm and try to destroy it, in turn, maybe doing too good of a job and actually wind up destroying your body? People that smoke have a greater chance of cancer maybe not from the smoke itself, but from the cancer trying to rid our bodies of the foreign substance it deems threatening. Sun poisoning sometimes leads to cancer, and could it be our bodies way of tryng to heal itself? Maybe cancer is our bodies defense mechanism to what we put into it and are exposed to. Do you think it is possible that cancer is actually trying to help our bodies? It crossed my mind and I am not saying it's true but it could be it's something to think about out of the box...

ugh! what an aggravating subject!
rumor has it that there is a cure out there but they dont wanna let it out cuz it's more profitable to "treat" it then to "cure" it. I can see that being the truth. I really, really hope it's not but I dont trust that they always do whats in our best interest.

My thinkin is that the cure is right in front of our faces but we just need to figure it out. Maybe something as weird as mixing orange juice, garlic, and a pomagrant. Ya know? Who knows?? I think we should have an answer by now.

The way I understand it cells replicate from ther original cell over and over. Eventually one copy of the cell is "flawed". Then that flawed cell makes a copy of another flawed cell and so on.

Our lifestyle is what gives us cancers. The EMF's (electric magnetic fields), the foods we eat, drinking, smoking, being exposed to so many toxins in the air, in our homes and outside. Im suprised we dont all have it a week after were born!

I agree with most of the responses on here - especially the ones about the drug companies being money grubbing bastards because they make a mint on the costs of the medications... and they would not make as much if the cure was let out. Not much different than the MS having a cure issue... I am pretty sure there is a cure out there, and I agree that just about everything out there causes cancer. Not to get off topic - but with Multiple Sclerosis the only way the doctors can say that it is its caused for sure is that there is a "familial tendency" to auto immune diseases somewhere in the family line. In my case, I had MS, my mother had scleroderma (she passed from complications of that disease in 1975) so there is the familial tendency for me... and I also have a history of diabetes, some cancer, strokes, heart attacks in my family... I just thank God for every day that is a good day for me health wise... and for allowing me to have stayed as healthy as I am for a woman with MS. I figure if I get cancer of some sort, my body will attack it instead of attacking itself like MS normally does (The immune system is overactive with MS and it attacks itself and causes scarring of the myelin sheath around the cells)

My prayers are out there for everyone that has had to deal with Cancer... we need to find a government that is not so money hungry... but that seems to be an oxymoron now, doesn't it?

cancer is not so much recent itself as the knowledge and understanding pertaining to it. i don't know how much you read up on this topic, but i'm a pre-med student, so i'm quite familiar with this issue. cancer is a 'defect' (let's call it that), in cells and their ability to reproduce at a normal rate. a cancer cell is created when our normal cells continue splitting rapidly long after they were suposed to stop. the treatments that you were talking about workd so that the cancer cells are targeted (with chemoterapy, or what ever kind is decided at the time), and attempted to stop this reproduction. unfortunatelly, our science has only advenced so far, and therefor the sideaffects that are caused by this treatment are sometimes almost as bad. the radioactivity that occurs from the majority of these treatments harms the human body (sometimes impedes the reproduction of cells that we do need to continue splitting) and sideaffects like hair loss can occur.
hope this helps you some... when you focus just on the way cancer works, it's pretty interesting to see all the things that can go wrong with the human body, but considering all the disasters that have resulted from it this 'natural occurence' hast turned out to be more of a pain. i'm sorry 2 hear about ur father. lemme no if there's anything else, or anything specific you'd like to know. i can probably help you out

Wendy and Mahdi?sp I agree woth you 100%. I lost my dad to cancer...he would have been 76 on Fathers day June 17 . He died at 52. I find it odd in the 23 years since then...the SAME EXACT treantments are used. CHemo or radiation....yes they can diagnos you faster....but the SAME EXACT treatments. ASK YOURSELF where has cancer research money gone.

My advice...be aware of how many chemicals u are exposed to in a single day.
Chemicals in food are allowed to be called "SPICES"-this is true.
SKin is your largest organ....what chemicals are going on?

Educate yourself.

I have never commented on your blogs, but find them all very interesting dont get me wrong. I lost my Grandma to cancer five years ago. It was very hard for me, for she was my friend also and not just my Grandma. I dont know where cancer comes from, other then we are born with the cells that can mutate, and for some of us they do or else they dont. That is the only way that I can explain why some people that smoke forever never get cancer of anything, and then there are people who just sit by a smoker and boom they have cancer. I know of an older lady who is in her fifties and has never smoked a day in her life or been near any smokers, but now she has stage three lung cancer and only a few months to live if she doesn't chose to do anything (like radiation or chemo).
My Grandma was only in her early sixties and she had breast cancer, had one breast removed and then got lung cancer when in remision, and then boom how about some brain cancer. It came so fast and hit so hard, and to watch my strong Grandma wither away and be in so much pain, was very hard to witness. I feel so bad and so upset for anyone that has a member of their family or a friend with cancer, it used to be that it never hit anyone, but now there are so many people and babies coming into the world sick with cancer.

OH, HOW I LOVE SCIENCE!

Cancer: any evil condition or thing that spreads destructively

Carcinogen: any substance or agent that tends to produce a cancer

A carcinogen interferes with a cell’s normal cycle. The cell then mutates (changes) into something different - different from what it was meant to be (skin cell, bone cell, muscle cell, etc.) All cells copy themselves. If a cell is copying a bad cell, it multiplies the bad cell over and over again. The cell doesn’t know if it should turn into skin, bone, muscle, etc. - the carcinogen interfered with this “normal” DNA information. It ends up multiplying into a useless lump.

Naturally, our bodies have suppressor cells that identify a mutated cell. Normally, the suppressor cells rush in and destroy any cell that is “wrong”. This prevents cancer in most people.

Some people have a problem with their suppressor cells (in the immunity). If their suppressor cells are not working properly, cancer is allowed to grow and grow and grow. This is why cancer tends to run in families. The suppressor cell dysfunction is copied in the DNA of your parents.

Actually, cancer has been observed and documented, osteologically, in prehistory. Although, because cancer typically reveals itself in/on the soft tissue, cancer of the bone (sarcoma) is the most commonly documented, or at least, the most undoubetdly confirmed. Sarcomas are typically found in children, and tend to be genetic. Carcinomas vary in pathology, and on skeletal remains are more difficult to diagnose in prehistory, because more often than not, paleopathologists have no soft tissue, and only bones to work with.

Cancer is a disease characterized by disorderly division of cells, combined with the malignant behavior of these cells. Malignant cancer cells tend to spread, either by direct growth into adjacent tissue through invasion, or by implantation into distant sites by metastasis (the process whereby cancer cells can move through the bloodstream or lymphatic system to distant locations).

There are many theories about the cause of cancer. At least six important factors contribute to cancer pathogenesis, including failure of apoptosis, overactivation of oncogenes, inactivation of tumor suppressor genes, cell cycle activation of quiescent cells, acquisition of metastatic behavior by malignant cells, disordered responses to cellular growth factors, and immune system surveillance failure. New aspects of the genetics of cancer pathogenesis, such as DNA methylation, and microRNAs are increasingly being recognized as important components. Other theories suggest that many cancers (such as testicular cancer in men) may be viral. This suggests that viruses such as mono, may eventually lead to certain types of cancers.

Actually, if you read your history, you will find that cancer has a long and documented past in humankind. Hippocrates described several kinds of cancers. He called benign tumors oncos, Greek for swelling, and malignant tumors carcinos, Greek for crab or crayfish. This name probably comes from the appearance of the cut surface of a solid malignant tumor, with a roundish hard center surrounded by pointy projections, vaguely resembling the shape of a crab (see photo). He later added the suffix -oma, Greek for swelling, giving the name carcinoma. Since it was against Greek tradition to open the body, Hippocrates only described and made drawings of outwardly visible tumors on the skin, nose, and breasts. Treatment was based on the humor theory of four bodily fluids (black and yellow bile, blood, and phlegm). According to the patient's humor, treatment consisted of diet, blood-letting, and/or laxatives. Through the centuries it was discovered that cancer could occur anywhere in the body, but humor-theory based treatment remained popular until the 19th century with the discovery of cells. I too had a scare with Cancer a few years ago. Today I'm a surviver of Cervical Cancer. I know it was with my Faith in God and a Great Doctor whom brought me through that experience. I don't think about the what if's just. I just Thank God daily for giving me the gift of Life. So many people take life for granted and really have no true knowledge of what life really means. Just ask as person who is dieing from cancer or who has survived it, ask them "what one thing if they could have, what would it be?" And I'm sure they will tell you LIFE!!!

No one knows where this deadly thing came from.... When I began researching it in 2003 I kept coming up with the same kind of answers:

1. Cancer comes from a variety of different factors, which is why there isn't one cure for cancer or some miracle cure that will get rid of all of them. Think of it, how do cells grow? How many different ways are there in the cell's metabolism for there to be tiny changes? The unofficial answer is 'lots'. So each one of these can cause an imbalance that may create a cancer.

2. The way that I think of cancer is that it is an uncontrolled overgrowth of cells. The cell has lost its ability to control growth and this goes out of control. Causes could be environmental, like radiation messing with DNA or nutritional deficiencies causing a lack of the building blocks it needs to keep itself healthy. Other reasons could be an accidental screw up of the copying of DNA, or a genetic defect passed down from your parents, or damage to tissues (from sunlight or cigarettes). Etc, etc.

The simplest test yet is Your age, diet, geography and exposure to pollution affect your risk of cancer.

There are as many different kinds of cancer as there are cells in the body. I know this explanation is simplified, but you could take classes for years and never know the whole answer to your question. Hope this helped. Below you will find a website to perhaps answer some of our questions. But will we ever know?

SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT YOUR FATHER. LIKE YOU MEMBERS OF MY FAMILY HAS ALSO BEEN DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER. MY MOTHERS MOTHER DIED FROM BREAST CANCER. MY FATHERS MOTHERS DIED OF STOMACH CANCER. MY AUNT WAS JUST RECENTLY FOUND OUT SHE HAD A DEVELOPING TUMOR AND HAS HAD SURGERY TO REMOVE THE GROWTH. AND MY MOTHER IS CURRENTLY BATTLING CANCER. A LITTLE OVER TWO YEARS AGO THE DOCTORS CONFIRMED THAT THE LUMP SHE FELT IN HER LEFT BREAST WAS CANCER. SHE HAD SURGERY TO REMOVE IT ALONG WITH RADIATION. EVERYTHING SEEMED TO BE GOING WELL. UNTIL ABOUT 4 MONTHS AGO. MY MOTHERS NOTICED THE PLACE WHERE THEY CUT HER FOR SURGERY LOOKED AS THOUGH IT WAS BUSTING OPEN. SHE WENT TO THE SAME DOCTORS SHE HAD BEEN GOING TO SINCE SHE FOUND OUT THE CANCER AND THEY KEPT TELLING HER NOTHING IS WRONG THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. SHE ALSO COMPLAINED ABOUT PAIN IN HER BREAST AND TOLD THEM SHE NOTICED LEAKING. SHE ASKED THEM TO RUN TEST JUST TO BE SURE THAT THE CANCER WASNT RETURNED. THEY IGNORED HER REQUEST AND JUST TREATED THE WOUND. SHE FINALLY DECIDED TO SEE ANOTHER SPECIALIST WHO SHOWED MORE CONCERN ABOUT HER WORRIES. TEST WERE RAN AND IT WAS DISCOVERED NOT ONLY DID THE CANCER RETURN IN HER BREAST, BUT IT SPREAD TO HER LUNGS. WE WERE DEVASTATED. I SHARE THIS INFORMATION BECAUSE A LKOT OF US TRUST DOCTORS AND THINK THEY KNOW WHATS BEST FOR US. BUT SOMETIMES WE NEED TO GET A SECOND OPINION. WE SHOULDNT JUST IGNORE WHAT WERE THINKING IS GOING WRONG IN OUR BODY. ITS OKAY TO GET SECOND AND MAYBE EVEN THIRD OPINIONS FROM OTHER DOCTORS OR SPECIALIST.
MY MOTHER IS RECEIVING CHEMOTHERAPY EVERY THREE WEEKS. SHE CANT HAVE SURGERY AT THIS TIME TO REMOVE THE BREAST BCS HER BODY MAY NOT BE ABLE TO HEAL AFTER THE SURGERY. ALL WE CAN DO IS KEEP OUR FAITH IN GOD AND KNOW THAT HE MAKES THE FINAL DECISION.

I came across this absolutely vital information while researching my new book called, Dark Deception, info which is just too important to keep under wraps until the book's release in a year's time.

Cancer is now the number one cause of death in the country, having surpassed heart disease a few years ago.

Please check out the graph in the video that illustrates the relationship between latitude, sun exposure and death rates from cancer. Remember the vertical axis shows the number of cancer-related deaths per 100,000, while the horizontal axis indicates latitude. It clearly shows that cancer-deaths go up significantly, the farther away from the equator one lives.

Here's why. With sun exposure, UVB radiation from the sun converts cholesterol to vitamin D, one of the most potent anticancer vitamins. See the connection? Please keep your vitamin D levels in a healthy range. If you're taking oral vitamin D in cod liver oil or a supplement, you need to measure your vitamin D blood levels to avoid overdosing. Take a simple blood test to help you keep your vitamin D levels in a safe, optimal range, and go to my vitamin D testing page for more details

While in Maui this winter, I heard a number of heartbreaking stories from folks there, who told me of close relatives who either had cancer, were dying from it or had died from it. How tragic! With this new information about vitamin D in mind, I said to them, "I don't know your relative." I asked, "But did they stay in the sun? Do they have a tan?", and even though some of these people lived in Maui, it seems every one of these people did not get much sun and were pale. This was a giant clue, empirically confirming what I was learning about sun exposure.

The best and safest way to get vitamin D is from the sun. The safe way to get sun exposure is to just go out enough so that your skin turns the very lightest pink. You'll also need enough of your skin exposed to sun. Exposing only your face and hands while going from office to car is not enough for conversion into vitamin D. We must remain sensible in our approach to this issue. This means: PLEASE DON'T GET SUNBURNED!

Bear in mind unique risk factors for dark-complexioned individuals. So if you're African-American, from the Middle East or India and live in America or Europe or in a very northern latitude, you're at very high risk for developing these cancers, as high as four times the risk. Darker skin serves as a filter, causing the need for two to five times as much sunlight as someone with very pale skin.

Also be careful about using most sunblocks as they are dangerous.
If you are looking for a safe one I have researched this and recommend Active Full Spectrum Sun Block. If you can't easily find it I put it in my store for your convenience.

In light-skinned individuals, overexposure to sun can also be problematic.

Normally, skin cancer is not going to be the melanoma type, for which there are multiple causes. Follow the link below to learn more. But having sun exposure can increase the risk of other types of skin cancers, which while not as dangerous as melanoma, are easily avoided with cautious sun exposure

BOTTOM LINE: NEVER GET SUNBURNED!

Avoid commercial sun blocks, which contain toxic chemicals that enter your bloodstream through the skin, and follow the link below for more info and alternatives to these products.

If you have any questions at all about the relationship about sun and skin cancer please be sure to visit my article on that topic.

Stay informed. Have a healthy, careful, appropriate relationship with sunlight.

I read a couple of peoples comments about cancer and God.Tthe human race has had free will for thousands of years. And we keep making really stupid choices. Toxic waste, agent orange, the a bomb, we have polluted our air and water supplies, we smoke and drink and live hard and fast, and when we get sick or a loved one dies of cancer we blame God. He made a beautiful world and WE ruined it. Cancer, in my opinion, was caused from the pollution we put in ourselves. The way we live the way we eat are all factors in our health. I have diabetes because off my bad habits. We need to take care of our bodies, God only gave us one, and its OUR responsibility to take care of it.

One study compared cancer rates of vegetarians and meat-eaters in 34,000 Americans. The results showed that those who avoided meat, fish, and poultry had dramatically lower rates of prostate, ovarian, and colon cancer compared to meat-eaters. According to a major 2006 Harvard study of 135,000 people, people who frequently ate grilled skinless chicken had a 52 percent higher chance of developing bladder cancer compared to people who didn’t. A 2007 study of more than 35,000 women published in the British Journal of Cancer found that women who ate the most meat were more likely to develop breast cancer than women who consumed the lowest amount of meat. Go vegan, my friends :)

Cancer is a disease ok now let's split the word up DIS-EASE. People are so negitve and when you have alot of negtive in your life it's cause dis-ease.
Life is a never ending learning experience and it's not gonna go smooth all the time and you can't control what go's on BUT you can control your feeling with situations. If you feel hopeless and depressed about things than dis-ease comes into your life.
The Secret you need to watch!!!

Good question...I have spent a lot of thought on this..Cancer is both genetic and what else are body comes in contact with..In some families there are some genetic markers that will predisposition a person to cancer..then again..I think as a society..we have to take a look at what we are ingesting..We are forcing chemicals into are farm animals so they grow bigger, and produce more..Since farm animals have been given these hormones..there has been a spike in cancer. Ever notice how young girls in grade school these days now have breast...the boys are shaving in 7th grade. Take a look..we are not only eating the meat and dairy injected with the hormones..but the fertilizers are now going to have traces of it as well. Then we as humans..are not capable of depleting it from are system. So along with the hormones we are ingesting daily...are bodies are not able to flush it out. So are cells are multiplying..and not regenerating at a normal rate..causing the cells tissue to back up..and mutate at abnormal rates depending on where are immune system is the weakest...How many natural foods do we actually consume? Take also in consideration..are top soil? Are veggies don't have the same nutrients they did years ago..So are they really giving us that anti oxidents that we need in order to correct the inbalance of all the other stuff we already ate?
Just my theory...
The best to all of you!

Hey J...

Cancer is a medical term that is relatively newer. It used to be thought that when people got really sick they were just suffering from a hard life.

I personally have had both colon and breast cancer. Like medicine of old when they thought you should bleed the bad out of you, cancer treatment had to start somewhere. Treatments have come a long way, in fact for my breast cancer I was was part of a human trial for a no-chemo therapy....

Not all cancers are treated with laser or burned out, those are measures to get a fast growing cancer stopped as soon as possible, sort of the same principal as a fire line during a forest fire.

As far as where it comes from, remember that we live in a society where even the air we breath is filled with foreign agents that are normally found deep underground. This combined with the fact that as a country we suffered through some terrible times, which can trip genetic triggers in unborn fetuses that can make them pre-disposed to abnormal tissue growth, which may or may not become cancerous.

I know all of this is really brief and vague. If you need more resources or want to talk, give me a hollar.

I sometimes feel a doctor will diagnose cancer anytime they can't find another ailment. What other disease can attack every part of the human body included cells, skin, brain. Hell, even my car has cancer. Cervical cancer is caused by an untreated STD that's why the new shot for it is so controversial. At one point there was a study saying breast cancer was predominately in rich white women...now that mamograms are free and more readily available they have found all types of women are prone to breast cancer they just didn't get diagnosed. So Josh, cancer sucks and I think you will be hard pressed to find a single person who's life hasn't in some way been effected by it.

when my mother wa diagnosed with breast cancer, we had so many questions, like the one's you asked on your bulliten; they were from how did that happen, why did it happen, when did it start to appear, what can we do, how will the treatments work, and will my mom survive? It was not onyl difficult to understnad but it was also horrifying to know it took a long process to find out my mother was sick as she was. She was not easily diagonsed and becuase it had taken so long to disagnose she had to go through radiation and kemotherapy. But, what the doctor said that could ahve happen was that, like other doctors have reported it could have been genetic, or the other possibility was that her milk ducts had left over milk and then produced an infection, which later the cells cold have morphed into cancer, whatever the reason my mother survived a stage three cancer, which I thank everyday!

What an excellent question, but I have no answers for you. I've always been told we all carry cancer around inside of us. I don't know what triggers it, but I have seen the damage it has done. I have almost all of the cancers covered in both sides of my family. It's scary, but I already know I won't ever have chemo if I it should come to that some day. I've been told by my Dad(who's been gone for almost 3 years now, from massive cardiac arrest) that chemo was the worst thing he ever had to go through. My Aunt is just skin and bones from all she has been through, breast cancer, lymphoma and one other kind(can't think of the name right now).

What I have always wondered is why they haven't studied sharks more, they carry cancer also and don't die from it!!

I 'd like to think of myself as an optimist, but I don't think I will live to see a "cure" for all types of cancer. Some cancers are just too rare and aggressive for anyone to have a fighting chance, but with some others we can make a difference by taking preventative measures, and early treatment. I've had two positive and two negative outcomes of friends and family w/cancer. My uncle had prostate cancer at the young age of 50. He quickly sought treatment and survived. Last year my roommate was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 33. She had a masectomy and is now doing fine.....On the other hand, my friend Mary was diagnosed with Hodgkins, and my Aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer, and both of them waited until it was too late and the cancer had spread throughout their bodies. Both cases should have been treatable. Unfortunately their deaths have had a major negative impact on their imediate family members. It sure put my life into perspective, and I am thankful everyday for all that I have.

Once again J, another great topic to discus.

I have thought the same questions you have on this terrible disease that has taken and effected several people regardless of their age, race, or gender. Where does cancer come from... we all have cancer cells living in each of us. There are different factors (heredity, exposures to certain chemicals, sun, nicotine) that can trigger cancer cells to multiple and take over our bodies without warnier. My father died of melanoma skin cancer at the age of 61. The doctors were never able to pin point the starting point of where it all began. It spread to his brain, which was removed in March 05' successfuly. However the cancer had spread to his internal organs, the liver. The doctors gave my dad months to leave and I am grateful that God gave us more, a year to spend more with my dad. My father passed away March 06 and we miss him dearly but we didnt want to see him suffer no more. He had chemo, radiation, and therapies. These treatments were very harsh on my father but he fought and never showed any fear, my father was a strong man. We are Mexican and my father disliked the sun or heat of any kind, we cannot understand how he was diagnosed with this, there is no family member with this disease. I am very cautious of the sun now and inform the importance of suncrean to my daughter. I have made her aware that this perhaps may be heredity so she needs to check herself now & as she grows into adulthood for any chges in her moles. The lost of my father has been hard for me & my family. My mother whom never left my father alone in the hospital seems to try to cope in living on her own, ,me & my sisters without a dad to hold on. I believe that certain factors besides the sun or nictone can effect us just like Mahdi had mention.
I dont really believe that the sun was the caused of this for my father even if the doctors indicated this. Its just hard to believe that he was diagnosed with this when he rarely ever went out under the sun.
Everyone needs to pay attention to their bodies and if there is any discomfort or anything out of the ordinary go have urself checked out. You only have one of you and your worth something.

J-The Truth,
My sincere sympathy to you for having this aweful thing happening to you and someone dear to you. Most of us have had loved ones pass from cancer. I too, lost my father to pancreas and liver cancer 4 yrs. ago. Watching a parent melt away in agony with eyes of fear and sorrow looking at you is the most dreadful and painful thing a person can possibly experience. I prayed for God to come for him and end this pain for all of us. I had faith that Heaven awaited amongst those who have passed prior. I prayed for their unity. It gave me strength and undoubtably an understanding that death is very much a part of life. We must accept the fact that we will all die someday. I do not ask why nor do I judge Gods plan. I remain content that my father is in a far better place then the hell he was in and that he is always and forever with me. My sincere heartfelt thoughts to you Josh. Your Friend, CindyLou xoxo

I don't know your relationship with jesus, but I do read my bible alot and there are verses in the bible that speak about generation curses on the blood line, alot of these sickness comes from our forfathers rebellion toward God, and that allow the enemy to bring sickness and disease on us and our love one, if you want to know what generation curse that is on your blood line pay attention to those bad habits that is going from one person to another person in your family. One way to break generation curse is by having a personal relationship with God, and he will began to show you things that you need to do as far as repentance for what you forfather have done that cause those curses on your blood line, and then God will began to show you what you need to do that will cause your body to be heal. One thing I can share with you is that we need to watch the food that we eat it make a different in our bodies, yes we need to excercise that is very important, and I am learning about herbs being a part taker of healing your body, that is also in the bible, but the most important thing that you need to know that jesus is the main source if you really want to experience true manifestation of healing power.

I did some research on Cancer some years ago because my parent died from it. There are several factors that cause Cancer, there are different types and Cancer has different stages. Cancer has to do with an abnormal growth of a human cell. This cell breaks off and then travels through the body; invading different tissues. I sent a detailed email to the person who developed this blog

Well, I can say from my own personal experience that I have been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer and luckily it was stage 1 when they caught it. I went to the Cancer Treatment Center here in Chicago and they treated me not only with the "Traditional" and "Conventional" meds, but with holistic measures as well. I have been in remission for 3 years now.

My mother had the same cancer as did her mother. I guess that we didn't hear alot about it when we were younger or even when my mother was younger. But I think it existed then, for if not, then why did my Grand-mother die of the same cancer that my mother and I both had and fought against?

If you know of someone with cancer, there is a support group out of Chicago that has been a great help to me to the point that I helped another lady with Ovarian Cancer. The name is "Imerman's Angels." Their website is: http://www.imermanangels.org.

The lady that I was close to for a year lost her battle just a week ago. My name was mentioned in her funeral service as bringing her joy and happiness in her final days. All I did was to be there when she needed someone to talk to and share both her joys and sadnesses with. She was 81, lost her husband 6 months after we met, and after her 3rd chemo treatment, she had a heart attack. She gave up after that. I think she just missed her husband so much that she decided to be with him.

Cancer is a scary word, my youngest child was just 13 months old when I was diagnosed. I decided then to not give in, to fight with everything I could find. And with the help of the Cancer Treatment Center, I found a balance and will be here to see my eldest get married, see both my youngest children graduate High School and dance at their weddings and be there for my grand-children and tell them where their christmas presents are hidden. Plus I plan on being the type of Grandma that gives you a skateboard for your 3rd birthday and always has a pocket of candy when I visit. Plus I have the rest of my life to live with my husband. He stuck beside me when I was diagnosed and we were not married yet. he could have ran the other way, but he didn't. He researched everything he could think of to ease the pain and he also shaved his head when chemo took my hair.

I was blessed with a family that fought with me. I can only hope that others are as blessed to have families that are willing to fight with them....

Hi J
Cancer is in the genes if you have the gene then something may trigger it. Could be diet or abuse of alcohol or smoking. There is a diet calle the micro biotic diet that has been know to help and even cure cancer a book can be bought over the internet. It is mostly vegetarian with some fish, no meat is allowed as there is a theory that protien feeds the cancer cells it is a long shot but if you go online and read about the diet it may help you understand a bit about how the diet works.

There are cancer causing agents in almost everything we have in our house now. The microwave, pans, and many other items that we use in our own lives. WE can obbsess about how to prevent it but really if we don't know exactly where the causing agents are then we will not know what to avoid. The best thing to do then is eat foods that help our bodies to fight it off and also we really should be living for God. Even if we do get it while living for God then at least He will provide for us a great place to go when we die.

I'm just a little late in my response to this. . . . There are a few links between cancer and viruses. For example, the virus that causes genital warts is very strongly linked to cervical cancer. And now there's a vaccine against that virus. There are a couple more viruses that are linked to cancers but i can't remember them now. Hmm, my comment isn't as colorful or interesting as others . . . it's just the facts. Sorry. But i hope it helps.

I know this is a hard topic for MANY people... Including myself I lost my Great Grandfather to stomach & liver cancer... I had bone cancer... my Grandfather had skin cancer... my Grandmother had cervical cancer...

I had always thought it was "a part of life" until I began to educate myself... and your right it IS a recent thing... and the more I have dug the more I have found that it is related to things such as floride, bleach, ammonia, caustic cleaners, formalhyde (sp?) in things such as baby wash, shampoo, conditioner, body washes, soap, lotion even toothpaste...

Those of you that disagree with me do yourself a favor... search for formayldahyde's (sp?) OTHER names... you will find it in Johnson & Johnson, Gerber, Panteen Pro-V, Tide, ALL, Dawn & more...

If you wanna know more visit my page & click on the link to the news story about the dangers of toxins within the home... I found this news story and have made it my mission to tell EVERYONE about it...

To those of you who have to deal with the crap first hand I wish you the best of luck and I hope you will beat it and never have it come back EVER again!!!

Hugs,
Christina
