Billy Cairns
It is with the deepest sorrow that I presently write of the passing of my dear friend and band mate, Billy Cairns. The crash of reality's thunder is jarring, and the loss profound. To muster any words at this time seems so difficult, but to fail to do so would be impossible.

About Billy; he was a whacky, magnetic, crazy-ass, truly unique personality plus type. He was smart as hell, confident, loyal, witty, super reliable, a hard worker, and was always up for an adventure. He could sweat with the best of 'em but you still wanted to hug him. His pride, devotion, and love for his family were at the fore-front of his being.

About his drumming; his whole body would sway with the instrument, a sort of blurry, loopy rubber man, dynamically pounding hard and soft hits in perfect time. It seemed like any and all parts of the kit were fair game for a strike. His playing was a combination of God-given natural talent, superb rhythmic intelligence, and a huge heart. In short, he was awesome.

I feel so fortunate for having spent the last year hanging out, playing in a band, and recording with him. It was the best time I ever had musically, and he came to feel like a brother to me. His child-like enthusiasm and love of music sent us all into the, "Billy Zone". He will be sorely missed, but never forgotten. I love you brother.

So sorry to here of this loss. I had only met Billy once, but he immediately charmed me with his love of life and whimsical style. Your description of him and his drumming ring true and make a person lke me who only encountered for one short evening feel as if I knew him forever. Peace be with you, Billy and all of us.

Guys,

I'm real sorry to hear the news. I only met Billy once, but he left a lasting impression on me as being as warm, genuine and unique an individual as anyone could hope to meet. It must have been a great time playing with him and hanging out with him. As a fellow drummer, it was inspiring to witness his solidity and sense of musicality behind the drums. I'll never forget the enthusiasm with which he described to me his playing and his setup the night that I saw him with you guys and spoke with him; he was like an excited kid on his first gig.

My best to all of you in dealing with such a loss.

Mike

My deepest sympathy to you guys and Billy's family. I remember seeing him at Jessie's a couple of times and he seemed like a fun guy, full of life and energy. This truly comes as a shock to me as I'm sure it is to everyone who's met or seen him play. Thank you for the loving tribute though...it gives those of us who really didn't know him well a sense of how much he will be missed.

All my best wishes,

Mark

I had the honor of playing along side Billy in my Tom Petty Tribute Band - Petty Larceny. He was a great guy and a phenomenal drummer. The man was a human metronome. I'll miss his smart ass remarks, and his rim-shots after I would say something stupid.

R.I.P. Billy

Billy was a co-worker of mine. Unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to get to know such a great guy. I'm sorry for that, I missed out on a lot. RIP Bill

Just heard the sad news about Billy yesterday. It's been a number of years since I've seen him, so I'm just stunned by his passing. He was my manager back in the 90's over at Bestek. Worked with him for a good 5 years or so. Always ready with his quick humor, hearty laugh and big smile. Always good music playing in his office. Such a friendly, "right there" personality that the laughs had with him as a co-worker/friend are so vivid even after these years - hard to think of Billy not being in this world. It's hard to even be writing this.
Nothing but my deepest sympathies go out to his family and those closest to him.
