ABOUT THE BLUES MUSIC AWARDS

Formerly known as the W.C. Handy Awards, the Blues Foundation last year changed the name of it's annual recognition of the finest in Blues performances and recordings in a move to bring broader visibility to the music, and to make it easier for every person who comes into contact with the name to understand what the awards honor - excellence and achievement in Blues music.

Each year performers, industry representatives and fans from around the globe arrive in Memphis to celebrate the best in Blues recording and performance from the previous year. The Blues Music Awards are universally recognized as the highest honor given to Blues artists.

The Blues Music Awards are produced by The Blues Foundation, a non-profit organization established to promote Blues music, celebrate Blues excellence, foster Blues education and preserve Blues history.
