Current mood: nerdy
oh me oh my!
we were asked to write a bio on several occasions so i thought i would blog both versions. the real ones. since clearly we aren't forest nymphs ACTUALLY and we do have a lovely story of how we got together as a teacupping trio.
hurrrr they is:
THE SERIOUS ONE:
Meeting in the schoolyard, Elizabeth and Chelsea's fondness for folk and all things Jenny Lewis led them to engage in weekly busking rituals, earning just enough to dine on moderately priced vegetarian cuisine. Meanwhile, Talita, a mutual friend, toiled away waitressing at nearby cafe, recieving regular visits from the two musical beggars and providing a constant flow of soy hot chocolates and heart shaped chocolated marshmellows.
Before long, Elizabeth and Chelsea were asked to play at AK07 in The Famous Spiegeltent alongside the Craftwerk market. Although well-recieved, Elizabeth was petrified and declared that henceforth they were only to play if they were considered backround music. Chelsea was prepared to perpetuate this ruse but alas, amidst heated-floor naps and harry potter discussions, their will to practice dimmed and motivation wavered.
Talita stumbled into one of these meetings with bass in hand and after one jam, momentum was renewed and the whimsical folk trio was brought to life.
Under the name 'Teacups', (stemming from their affinity with hot-water beverages) the gaggle of giggly girls have composed many a new song, dipping into meloncholic ukulele driven french pop, playfully penned lyrics and what can only be described as 'wizard folk'.
Along with playing regularly about town and befriending other lovely local musicans with their complimentry cupcakes, Teacups intend to record and self-release an EP entitled 'bear/boy' sometime in the near future.
ANNNNNNDD:
BIO (mostly) BY LIZ (who got bored and started bullet pointing)- ADDITIONAL COMMENTARY BY CHELSEA
teacups started off as chelsea and liz busking at shopping centres playing jenny lewis songs eventually, chelsea made liz promise that they were a real band and fate/dumb luck brought them an excellent gig in a beautiful circus tent (AK07's speigeltent for the 'indie party' where craftwerk sold their wonderful wares. the gladeyes, artisan guns and bearcat also played) the pressure was on to finish one original song by deadline, and they completed it at least seven hours before the show ('birds' was born). unfortunately, post show they lacked motivation and spent many a "band practice" napping on chelsea's heated carpets for hours at a time, having discussions about harry potter and fantasizing about having another starwars marathon. it was then that liz and chelsea invited talita along because she was super pretty and didn't like sleeping. like MAGIC talita brought the fun, lots of ideas and a double bass to practice. chelsea whispered to liz that they should officially ask her to join. liz agreed.
after that, - we wrote new songs, - went on a road trip to buy an accordian, - played a gig at the kings arms with bearcat, the glory sea and the randoms, (a rihanna cover was played, cupcakes were on offer) - played on bfm on hannahs 10-12 monday slot - cried after goodies got stolen from talitas band-wagon - wrote an angry yet brief british rap addressed to the thieves - played gig at fordes bar with pink fluffy islands and a very talented ukulele player.
chelsea's middle name is jade talita moonlights in prog-jazz liz never rides shotgun. teacups is exactly half indonesian (talita full, liz half, chelsea none).
your friends, teacups
