Current mood: happy
Three years ago I wrote a tune on my front porch. It was the 5th of November, the sun in the final throes of warming the earth before the big Minnesota chill engulfed the land. A rare balmy November day. I named the tune "Front Porch in 11/5 Time" and it's still probably my best effort at constructing something musically unique.
Yesterday was almost a carbon copy of that day. At some point I just dropped everything and took the old Alvarez out on the bench and started playing. After about an hour, neighbor Dave stopped by with his 3 1/2 year old daughter. They were on their way to the park but opted to stop and jam for a while. Dave loves to hear acoustic guitar and Delaney just loves music. Enough blues and finger pickin' - time for some good old kid stuff. I got to play songs I hadn't played since my college boy was that age - Old McDonald, I've Been Working on the Railroad, Bumpin' Up and Down in My Little Red Wagon, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. We played and sang until the sun was low enough to allow the chill to return to the air.
I didn't write any new 11/5 music but we sure had some fun with the old stuff.
Here's to warm November days, good neighbors, and especially to my little friend and vocal accompanyist, Delaney.
