Greeting and salutations!
Just to give a quick synopsis of the story of "The Woman In Black", for those who have asked or weren't quite sure of the whole story.
Okay, I've only seen the movie version, which I hear is quite different from the original book. Plus, there's a stage version and also an audio book version, which I have, but have yet to listen to.(I'll get to it one of these days) ..anyhow, the version I will relate to here is of course from the movie:
What happened was, she(the woman in black) had a child, but was not married. During those times, morals were different, so not allowed to keep the child being un-wed. So, her sister took the child & raised it as her own in Eel Marsh House. One day, the child and her nanny along with the driver of the carriage were crossing the causeway over the marshland...an accident occured, all drowned in the marshes....the 'woman in black', the real mother, saw all this happen from an upstairs window in Eel Marsh House. And, for whatever reason, decided to take revenge by causing accidents, etc(causing death) upon other's children in the surrounding village. Arthur Kidd, the guy you see in the movie, was a lawyer sent out to Eel Marsh House after the old woman had died, to clean up legal affairs, etc. He became aware of the whole story, got too involved I guess, even Eel Marsh House itself burned down while he was there, why I guess the 'woman in black' not only took a child from him...but, his entire family, including himself.
