This poem will not rhyme
This poem is officially a protest
Of saying sounds that sound the same
I don't know where it started
May have been Dr. Seuss
Maybe Rakim
They were amongst the first to
Truly sing to me
Then came Shakespeare and Jay Z
Unraveling my pentameter mystery
It's brought bliss to me
Throughout my history
And it's why this habit
Is so hard
To resist
You see
But not this poem
This poem will not rhyme
This poem is about doing things differently
Stepping out
Of comfort zones
And bungee jumping in new directions
This poem is about changing habits
Cuz that's not always easy
And sometimes you may find yourself
On an un-traveled path
There all alone, left with no map
And every once in a while
You might just revert back
But maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan…
Bump that!
Switch it up!
Reject the familiar!
Make new prints in snow!
Cuz the problem with road maps
And following in other people's footsteps
Is that it doesn't allow you
To explore those places
Which you have yet to
Discover
