Indeed I'm afraid so, but before I make myself some cocoa and drag the sheets over my head, I'll let you know what's happening at the Rising Sun this weekend.

We don't always have a full weekend, but without any further ado, Friday sees another helping of STAND UP CINEMA.

Stand Up Cinema is a collaboration between us and those lovely people at Real Time Video, and it's a great  place to see short films by local filmmakers with a friendly informal atmosphere. .

As part of Black History month, we're proud to be bringing you CATCH A FIRE for our main feature.

Catch A Fire is a dramatic thriller about Patrick Chamusso, a young, apolitical man (played by Derek Luke) who is accused of carrying out an attack against the government, in apartheid-era South Africa. The film is based on a true story.

We're open at 7pm. The short films start 7.30, and Catch A Fire shows at 8pm. Entry is a paltry £4 on the door (or £3 concessions).

Then on Saturday, it's time for BANDORAMA.
For those of you who may still not know Bandorama has been hugely influential on the Reading scene bringing some of the best bands around to the Rising Sun. It went away for a little while, but just over a year ago, with a helping hand from our pals at Club Velocity, Bandorama is back with more of the same.
Saturday's bill looks like this:-

SKYLINE DOSSIER
Skyline Dossier have to beReading's best kept secret. Wonderful old school flavored psych-freakbeat-prog.
Dan their lead singer is a complete star in the live arena. Like a local Frank Black. A band who stick up two fingers up at fashion. They are the new breed. Awesome live.

HOLD YOUR HORSE IS
This band ROAR!

Excellent band alert. They've recently been recording with Gordon Mills (of Keane infamy) But don't let that put you off. These kids are full on rock, with a punk coating. Championed by none less than Tom Robinson and Steve Lamacq who had this to say:-
"...and just in case you were thinking of tuning out ‘cause that wasn't quite loud enough for you, woah Hold Your Horse Is! ... thrashing their guitars like a mad axe man who has got out of bed, on the wrong side!’"

MARTY CAIN
Discovered via myspace. Marty deals in naive-real folk punk. He sings about Jan 1st, you screwing up his dream;your heart is in his lunch box. Marty Cain is from the middle of nowhere of the USA. He is currently studying in London. We think he should be bigger than Beck

We're open at 8pm, and entry is just £5 on the door or £4 with a flyer

Finally on Sunday, we bring you CABARET FOLKLORICO
cabaret Folklorico is a showcase of world music in a relaxed setting and featuring some incredible artists.

This event is part of black history month, and the bill looks like this:-

ABDOUL DAVIS
Abdoul is a Master Drummer from the Gambia. He is also a professional Dancer and dances the traditional Wolof Dances of West Africa he will dance wth Janisel Zapata a dancer from Cubas world famous Cutumba dance company.

IFE TOLENTINO & STEVE WELLS.
Cool and gentle Brasilian guitar duo, playing some music you will recognise such as bossa nova but with a much wider repertoire.

KADIALY KOUYATE.
Kadialy belongs to the great line of Kouyate Griots who are descendants of Bala Fasseke Kouyate. He has played the Kora from an early age and has a great wealth of knowledge of traditional West African songs and stories.

THE DRUMMRUNNERS DRUM N BRASS.
A lively mixture of junk percussion samba, darabuka and a brass section to crank up the volume.

We're open at 8.30, and entry is a mere £7 on the door.

That's us done for another week, have a splendid weekend.  Also if you're about to follow my lead and get an early night, I wish you sweet dreams!
