There are so many of these guys ... where does one begin search for information about them and the line up of the various bands in which they played??? Did they play in their local area, were they in a resident band somewhere or did they travel the length and breadth of Ireland. do tours of Britain or travel further afield? The search is similar to that of your family history ... you ask friends who they remember, you look for websites and you search through old newspapers and directories of musicians.

There are at least a couple of websites which have a lot of great information about the showband scene. One is the Co. Sligo based  http://www.irish-showbands.com and the other is the http://www.irishshowbands.net site which has been created by Francis Kennedy of Athenry.

The Musician's Olympus lists bass players, drummers, guitarists, bass players, horn players, keyboard players, percussionists, violinists and vocalists as well as other instrumentalists and producers. There are other sites which relate to dance halls and promoters.

There are also sites relating to individual artists which give a short biography as well as their discography.
