Gram went to see Elvis Presley at the Waycross City Auditorium in 1956...Charlie and Ira Louvin were on that bill along with The Carter Family and Little Jimmy Dickens.
The Louvin Bros. inspired Gram's later catalog of work yielding The Byrds' "The Christian Life" and Gram and Emmylou's rambunctious cover of "Cash on the Barrelhead."
While living in California, Gram purchased a top hat with the initials C. Chaplin inside the headband. He later presented the hat to Leon Russell as a gift, giving rise to one of the most famous visages of rock and roll history.
Charlie Louvin will return to Waycross Sat Sept 19 for the 8pm to 10pm slot which will be recorded and distributed on the Tompkins Square label worldwide.
Leon Russell headlines Fri Sept 18 at 10:30pm, preceded at 9pm by Randall Bramblett and Tommy Talton, soulful Capricorn Record veterans of Southern Music.
Also appearing will be Ian Dunlop, original bass player in the International Submarine Band and Athens-based jam band Bloodkin.
