Boston quartet Hooper Piccalero includes trumpeters Lauren Strobel and Danilo Henriquez, bari-sax player Derek Beckvold and bass trombonist Matt Plummer. The foursome specializes in textural scrabbles reminiscent of early Art Ensemble sides, as well as quirky spoken-word oriented pieces like "What the Fuck," in which the title is ritualistically repeated like some kind of Balinese monkey chant.
