I hate working this late at night unless there's more recreation involved.

Which is to say, this task feels like homework.

And I was always a frustrated student.  Not lacking in discipline, just seeing that discipline vanish come crunch time.

Anyway tonight I'm writing a bio.  Just a short statement about where these songs came from.

My impulse is actually to reveal nothing.  Everyone loves the Pixies...I always think of them and their mysterious album covers.  Loamy collages, hairy backs, naked women.  Music's so much better behind a shroud.

I do need to finish this tonight, though.  Tomorrow I'm going to a show...that day is already done.

In a nutshell:  I grew up in Dallas and never penned a single tune; played in bands, though; went to college in California (almost left my guitar at home); started another band, and wrote a couple tunes; moved to Eastern Europe for work (almost left my guitar at home); came back and went to grad school in DC; got cracking once and for certain on writing songs; played my first proper show at the Velvet Lounge over by the 9:30; moved to New York; wrote "What it did," and recorded.

Anyway this is all in advance of some shows coming up in September:  every Monday that month, a free show at Arlene's Grocery, leading up to the final release show for "What it did."

We're going to have special events planned for each of these four sets.  But that's for later.

OK, a quick request for any readers in Boston or DC:  the band would love to play shows there.  Something around the time this residency completes, say, late September.

Yah, I really have to sleep.
