Dark Knights of Camelot - Hurrication EP
CD
Rock/Pop - Modern Rock
Cheshire Cat Sez: Another album that sounds geared to get mainstream modern rock airplay, BUT THANKFULLY this has some stones. All tracks rock well except for the last one, which is a 7 minute build up from slow to loud.

Friday, June 12 Dark Knights of Camelot w/Alexander and The Grapes/Steady State

The lead singer of Dark Knights of Camelot has the blasé Kurt Cobain mumble-and-gritty to his yells. The band’s music is grunge-inspired, creeping stoner rock with fuzzy-fat bass, slow and hypnotic rhythms, and easy fluid melodies. The Mississippi power trio is relatively new — they’ve only just released their first recording, the Hurrication EP, this March — but they come off sincere and the music sounds good, too. Dark Knights of Camelot - Hurrication EP (CD, Olympic, Rock)

If there's one thing we love like fuck here in the plush office suites at babysue, it is big, thick, fuzzy, overdriven guitars. And that's just what we got when we shoved the latest EP from Dark Knights of Camelot into our CD player. This Hattiesburg, Mississippi-based trio plays big ballsy rock/pop with aggressive ballpower. Everything sounds like it was recorded in the red...and the songs absolutely kick ass. Although this EP only presents five tracks, all five are pretty incredible...and left us totally hungry for more. Killer hard rock cuts include "Wanna Be," "I'd Rather Be," and "Luster Lack." We can't wait to hear what these guys will do on a full-length effort...! Recommended. (Rating: 5++)

Where are the LOUD GUITARS???
posted by David Riedel

Ugh. Friday. Long week. Searching for loud, ugly guitars. Not finding anything ugly enough. Bleh.
In a time when only the nastiest will do, sometimes one can't find the nastiest. Enter the Dark Knights of Camelot. If one were to rank their ugliness factor on a scale of one to 10, they'd rate about a six (we're talking musically, not aesthetically, for which they'd certainly be at least an eight). Like a junkie crawling all over the carpet looking for rocks, exceptions must be made in a pinch.
This trio has some loud guitar action, sinewy bass and big drums. They fall into that trap that trios fall into sometimes: The bassist treats his instrument as a second guitar, playing high notes when he should be rounding out the bottom end. And they've made their music sound a little too neat (meaning calculated). These songs are meticulously written and arranged with the amps and distortion cranked pretty highly so that the songs seem messier than they are. And sometimes, god damn it, you just want mess. AND THIS IS TOO NEAT TO BE A MESS.
Admittedly, it's not really Dark Knights of Camelot's fault. On many days, their tunes would be magicalguitarness enough to get one through tha noize of tha everyday. The opener "Wanna Be" on the Hurrication EP is fast, tight-but-sounds-loose and thumpy. All good things. To get a little more ugly, try "Purple Undertones." It's long and a little slow and eventually pretty, but what are you gonna do? It's still a good listen and they're a band to watch.
