These Idlewild setlist blogs are totally messing up my perception of what length a set from a headlining band should be. I was at a gig a couple of nights ago in The Academy, was really looking forward to it and while it wasn't a bad set by any means, it was seriously short (in my opinion) with only 14 songs and a one song encore. Two of the songs were cut almost in half for some reason as well. The band have a huge repertoire of songs already with three and a half albums and an absolute rake of B-Sides so its not like they were short on material. I left the gig whinging, whilst referencing that Idlewild play 21 song sets and usually a four song encore. I bet you didn't finish your set at 22.15 either. Rock on Idlewild and bring the rock over here as well.

You mean Six and a half albums right? Or were you making a point that I missed?

Bear in mind all gigs will have varying restrictions based on the venue and day of the week.

Yeah I was talking about the band (Fightstar) that I saw in The Academy in Dublin a couple of nights ago. The set was seriously short and sweet and I couldn't help but think of Idlewild when the gig was over cause i've been following these setlist blogs that they have been publishing from their UK tour. These Idlewild sets are proper sets.

Ahh, I thought you meant at an Idlewild gig...

I guess it depends on so many things. I think Fightstar have longer tracks, and maybe more young fans that have to be out by a set time. Often venues have to clear out and set up ready for 11pm club opening, that happens often in venues I go to.

Good points alright but after having the obligatory Mightmac meal in Supermacs after the gig, we swung back past the venue to see if their was a club on and there didn't seeem to be. Just a few girls waiting around to as they said "Rape Charlie". Funny coming from 4ft 14 year olds and Charlie is a fairly big chap. But yeah, it was a 14+ (no alcohol) gig so maybe that is why it was over so early. Do promoters take that particular factor into account and tell the bands to finish up around 22.15?
