I went to see Basement Jaxx in Newcastle today, with Rich, Mark and Ali. Rich and Mark picked me up and we met Ali in Newcastle. Normal ticket prices were £27 but I got a last minute ticket for £6.50 plus £4.50 next day delivery from ebay. The ticket arrived in time and I can't say how happy I feel to have experienced this whole thing. We arrived at Newcastle just after 3 and the doors opened at 6 in the gig. So Rich dragged us along to his favorite record store where he spent 2 hours choosing two cds to buy >.< I got telepopmusic-Breathe with 4 songs (only one was a remix of breathe) for 50p and the whole first Gorillaz album for 3 quid. I am well happy with that. So we left Rich to look for his music and me Mark and Ali went to Pizza Hut for some pre-concert grub. We shared a lovely 3 course meal which consisted of 2 starters (cheesy and plain garlic bread and wedges), a family sized chicken and mushroom pizza, 3 desserts and 3 unlimited refil drinks. We didn't manage to eat half of that so we got a doggy bag! >.< Afterwards we met up with Rich and drove to the gig. We were one of the first to go in so we stood very close to the stage. Rich and Mark were second row and me and Ali one row back right behind them. I couldn't see though so I moved next to Rich and Mark to wait for the support band to come out. Rich and Mark got a bit too tight together so seeing that there was a tiny space between two lads in the front row, i slid between sideways and made some room for them. That was the smartest thing I could have done. Lads being naturally more careful when girls are so close to them, moved a bit to either side and I could turn round and face front. I was front row smack bang in the middle of the stage!!! >.< Long wait but finally, the support band came out. CSS. Didn't know much about them apart from listening to some of their tunes once or twice before. They were an energetic girl band playing alternative electronic/indie music. The main vocalist was a superb showgirl. She had such charisma u could not possibly not enjoy her performing. :) Approximately 50 minutes later they were done and we had to wait for the stage to be rearranged for the main gig. After a bit of a wait and with feet aching like mad, Basement Jaxx finally made their appearance... First tune they play is 'Jump and shout'. The crowd didn't need anything more to start pumping up adrenaline. I was dancing like a mental in the first row, didn't let the lack of space stop me from having fun. In succession they played most of their best tunes and the night was absolutely amazing. Basement Jaxx apart from delivering unparallel musical quality (using 100% live components) they also proved how much they rely on show biz. They were all devoted to providing a great show to accompany their beautiful, multicultural music... They finished playing after 10 o'clock by which time I was knackered but still dancing around and singing. This has been the best live performance I've seen in my life and I am going to be there again next time they play around. :)
