Current mood:  grateful
Category: Music

I recently sent out a bulletin asking all of you to tell me who you think I sound like. I really was just doing it for a few laughs, I've had some interesting comparisons. I was more excited to get this review as a response from David Marshall from Nashville TN.   www.myspace.com/bigmountainmusic

Based on the four songs on your myspace page, I'd have to say you have a sound that is very much your own. I think that's why you've been told you sound like so many people. People bring their likes and dislikes into the equation and try to fit you into a box. But at the end of the day, listening with scrutiny I find the four songs listed as very different from one another, giving you very much a jam band vibe. Mixed Up is upbeat and jingly musically (a kazoo for instance) and is very much in contrast to its lyrics. I like this kind of writing. It would be easy to write the music and think, "I need bright, happy lyrics!" It would also be easy to write the lyrics and look for a dark hook or something to accompany. 33 Leaves is what I call a mood song. The music lays a pallette of individual parts that interweaves to form a more complex arrangement than the parts taken individually. That's definitely not a slam to the individual parts either. In fact, it shows a maturity in the arrangement. There are some staccato embellishments that seem to be panned to the far right (at least in my crappy little computer speakers) that I really dig at around the :53 mark starting into the chorus. There is also an embellishment at the beginning that makes use of what sounds like an autopan that is very subtle but makes the intro pop. St. Theresa is edgier and a bit heavy. Your voice is more raw and nasty on it. The song manages to be heavier and maintain a singable melody. There are some parts in the chorus I could hear Beatle-esque harmonies in my head. Then Worst Way comes in and is very stripped down and bare. Following St. Theresa on your playlist was a wise decision. The contrast works very well. I love the lyrics as well. What musician couldn't relate? Who among us haven't had the gig we have to beg the friends and relatives to see? And the worries and rigors of trying to make ends meet while following your dreams. Good stuff man!

Thanks David!!

Bridget,
bridget taylor

I've always thought that you sound just like Nathan Taylor, and I would'nt dare try to compare you to anyone. You are a great singer whom wich my husband and children look up to, and we all love listening to you every chance we get. We would love to see you big and famous someday, but if that never happens you have three little ones who will always see you as famous. We all love you very much and think you are the most talented Uncle Nathan that walks the earth.
