A
wilde Zeit is not the new album from Sturmpercht the masters and
inventors of alpine- folk form; but it’s a fairly wonderful and
consistent collection of odd’s and ends by the band which comes in near
the 80 minute mark & offers up 18 varied tracks.
Though
this just misser's been as great as their first two & now classical
album’s Stürm Ins Leben Wild Hinein & Geister im Waldgebir- there’s
a good share of great to very good tracks on offer here. And a few of
my favourite moments come in the form of: Die Wilde Jagd Vom Untersberg
which starts off with what sounds like recordings from a mountain top
work shop with a great stone shaping tone, water and various taping
sounds before the track jumps into a jaunting slightly drunken
accordion, bell and percussion stomp with the bands trade mark Germanic
drinking hall vocals on top. Der Wilde Jäger Vom Untersberg with its
eerier and emotional 80’s synth simmer, mournful bass line and chilling
vocal tone; which all brings to mind uncertain emotional walks in
winter-time forests. The wonderful warming sun and rising acoustic
repetition, bells and bass line of Das Geschenk Der Wildfrau; which
gives one the feeling of walking in a spring soaked alpine meadow just
as the sun comes up. Der Marsch Der Wampelereiter which finds
Sturmpercht in wonderful buoyant & stein slamming mood with its
prime mixed brass marching air. And I could go on and on, you see
unlike many bands odds ‘n’ ends collections this is full with enjoyable
and consistent songs that are far from throw away tracks; with only say
one or two of the 18 tracks not been utterly wonderful.
Another
great release from both Sturmpercht and the always wonderful Percht
label. With special mention needed once more for the excellent album
artwork; with the album coming in fold-out digi-pak that made to look
like a log cabin floor with pictures of the band and wonderful old and
quirky Austrian snaps.

"A
Wilde Zeit" fu pubblicato in origine nel 2007 in un'edizione minima di
100 copie in CDr, con l'intento di fissare su formato digitale le
uscite di Sturmpercht stampate solo su vinile e mai ripubblicate in
seguito. La medesima compilation viene ora riproposta in CD a tiratura
larga, con non pochi cambiamenti formali rispetto all'edizione
precedente: se da una parte vengono ripresi tutti i brani editi sui 7"
"Der Tanz Des Tatzelwurms", "Der Marsch Der Wampelerreiter".. e lo split con Jägerblut, oltre all'inedito "..Schnaderhüpfels..ka",
dall'altra sono incluse soltanto cinque tracce recuperate dal
mini-album del 2005 "Alpine-Bann Und Segensspruche" (ristampato in toto
invece nella prima edizione), e vengono aggiunti i brani pubblicati
nella compilation "Mia Runa" (sempre del 2005) e l'..orchestrazione
del testo di Hiescher "Wir Rufen Deine Wölfe", apparsa nell'omonima
compilation. Questa super-band austriaca, nata dall'unione di alcuni
noti personaggi del settore neofolk e industrial orbitanti attorno
all'etichetta Steinlkang Industries, sta vivendo da qualche anno un
successo impressionante,.. testimoniato da una forte richiesta dei
loro titoli; fatto sta che un lavoro riassuntivo a tiratura larga era
ormai necessario, dopo le tante edizioni limitate finite fuori
catalogo. "A Wilde Zeit" testimonia l'essenza del progetto tramite
l'inedito e i brani recuperati dai 7": qui vengono uniti motivi folk
popolari di ascendenza alpina e poderose ritmiche tribali legate alle
tradizione locale, il tutto arricchito da mitologia silvestre e follia:
è questo, in fin dei conti, l'aspetto più innovativo e coinvolgente
proposto sin dal primo album "Stürm Ins Leben Wild Hinein!", in grado
di accostare un sound antico e popolare al filone neofolk, tenendo bene
a mente l'insegnamento di progetti come Waldteufel, ma con una minore
drammaticità compositiva. Seducenti sono anche i brani confluiti da
"Alpine-Bann", che mantengono lo stesso stile dei precedenti, ma sono
più cupi e torbidi, quasi fossero accompagnamenti.. per rituali
ancestrali ("Die Habergoaß") o per celebrazioni eroiche ("Weißt Du
Wohin Wir Ziehn?"). Deludono, per contro, le tracce estratte dalle
compilation, le quali si limitano a riproporre un neofolk che guarda in
massima parte ai padri del genere, con toni isolazionisti e ambientali,
ma è un aspetto totalmente secondario all'interno della produzione di
Sturmpercht, dettato forse dalla tematica singolare dei lavori di
provenienza. "A Wilde Zeit" è una compilazione di alto valore,
consigliata a chi sta scoprendo solo adesso questa anomala band, che è
stata capace di rivedere e modificare con successo uno dei settori più
rigidi della scena alternativa.
