Hi everyone, thanks for looking at my myspace page. I also have a real web site @ mayhemproductions.us that has a lot of great musicians, music, and art on it. Please check it out and as always, let me know what you think.

Here's a little about me: I was very fortunate to be born into a very musical family. My dad plays the electric bass, my mother cello, my late grandmothers played piano and organ, and my younger brother Jonathan Powell is an incredible trumpet player in NYC who has played professionally with artists ranging from Kenny Werner to Q-Tip to Sam Rivers. I was very blessed to have these influences in my life at such an early age.

When we were very young (like before kindergarten) my brother and I would bang on pots and pans to some classic rock n' roll vinyl and pretend that we were in my dad's band. We would also go and see our mom play with a local chamber orchestra and I would become mesmorized at the emotion that classical music could stir up inside of you.

Towards the end of elementary school I started to play the clarinet (back when a regular music program was still in every public school). Later, when I got into middle school I started to play in the jazz band, but jazz didn't really grab me until I heard "Miles & Coltrane- Live @ Newport 58'" during my feshman year of high school. Damn, I was hooked. From there I started playing the tenor sax so I could get into the high school jazz band. After I got dropped from the jv basketball team during my sophmore year I decided that I would pursue music 110%. I practiced pretty hard from then on and I got pretty good for a high school kid I guess. Before I had finished high school I received both of the Louis Armstrong and Woody Herman excellence in jazz awards as well as some very generous scholarships that helped me further my edumacational studies at the University of South Florida. I was there for a year but wasn't happy with the music program so I decided to take a pretty bold step and move to New Jersey which led me to New York City.

I eventually finished up my collegiate studies at the New School University in Manhattan. While at New School I was able to study with such world renowned players as Seamus Blake, Chris Cheek, Miguel Zenon, George Garzone, Reggie Workman, Jaime Haadad, and Armen Donelean just to name a few. In 2003 I was awarded the John Coltrane scholarship and as a result I got to play in the 2003 John Coltrane Jazz festival which was a blast.

I graduated with honors from the New School in 2004 which is when I started Mayhem Productions, which is a web site dedicated to giving deserving artists and musicians more exposure in today's very competetive artistic world. Since putting up Mayhem Productions I've been able to put out three cds for two of my own groups (THE 5et and Mayhem 7) and two cds for a group that I co-manage with Andrew ferren (Doctor Oscillator). The latest of these cds was a live cd from Doctor Oscillator which still gives me goosebumps when I hear it.

During the 2005-2006 concert year I was able to collaborate with the world renowned choral conductor James Jordan and the Westminster Choir on a number of choral concerts as well as a published arrangement of a Palestrina piece that I was asked to write a solo soprano sax part for, what a great experience.

Since then I've been traveling some and have also played some great concerts with the world renowned Grammy award winning santur player Nandkishur Muley (some clips can be found on youtube). I'm currently living in the Tampa Bay area of Flordia right now and I've been teaching at Jeff Berlin's Player's School of Music and Musicology. I've also been playing with some great groups here, mainly the Infinite Groove Orchestra, KELP, Larue Nickelson's group, and Musicology's own Inner Urge. There's some really great musicians here and I'm pretty stoked that I've been able to play with them.

Anyways, I've said too much. Hope you enjoy the music and pics.
