Sometimes you look at a photo and a person in that photo captivates
you. Whether it's their somber glance, radiant smile, whatever.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but
LIFE just joined with Google, to bring their entire photo library online. You can now search and find images that weren't ever published.
This is particularly awesome for me because some of my favorite LIFE
photographs have been difficult to find until now. Many of them don't
have names and are hard to describe when searching for images if you don't know the photographer's name, location of shoot, etc. Even then, you're not gauranteed to find it.
I immediately went to see what resolution they had for one of my favorite images of all time. The image of
Pablo Picasso painting a bull with a light at Madouro Pottery. I immediately found it and along with it, images that are outtakes from that
shoot... a delightful peak behind the scenes... including one of his mistress, Françoise Gilot, painting with the light as well. What grabbed me, however, was this photo of Gilot:

I've never read much about
Gilot. In fact, I'm not sure if I've ever seen a photo of her.
That look and that face gave me a new love and have determined what the next book I read will be... her autobiographic,
Life With Picasso. And it also gives me something to look into the next time I visit Austin, as UT, aparantly has
quite the collection of her works. Thanks, mistress.
