June, oh June, by the light of the moon...altogether now: In the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia, on the Traaaail of the Lonesome Pine!!

Huh?  No one else remembers it?  Hmmph.

Ahem, the month of June dawned, and lo, on the fourth day we boarded an ambulance with The Dead Class, bound for Germany.  After picking Tom Penn up on the way (it's amazing what you find in motorway service stations) we found ourselves parked next to Madness (the band, not the person - see below) on the Channel Tunnel.  The driver was friendly enough, and sported a 'Rockers Manchester' t-shirt; he resisted, however, all entreaties to let us on the bus.  I'm all for professional loyalty, but I'm not sure I could have refused the offer of a can of Scrumpy Jack and a Flat Back Four t-shirt!  Some people are just untouchable.

Many hours and and endless games of - what the hell IS the name for that game? - later, we awoke in Bielefeld, which by now feels like home from home.  We promptly went back to sleep again.  We're like that.  We awoke in time for the opening show of the tour, at Falkendom, in honour of Mike Schiesser's birthday and also notable for the first outing - nay 'World Premier', accoring to 11 Freunde magazine - of the Arminia Bielefeld song.  Mötex opened up, in true punk / metal / thrash mode.  I like.  Bloody lovely blokes too.

The Dead Class
were next and were received rapturously.  They were bloody good and the audience knew it.  We went on next, inevitably, opening with South of Heaven.  That was a lifetime's ambition achieved for Mr Penn and me, but despite our entreaties, the Dazzler and TC made us carry on.  We thoroughly enjoyed the gig, and especially the mass pitch invasion during the encore.  By the time I reached the bar during about the thirteenth chorus of 'Arminia Bielefeld' the stage was rammed and I was the only person on the hall floor.  It looked sweaty up there.

The beer flowed and night became the morning.  Thanks to Mike for a great party, Mötex, Maik for the filming, Hegarty for the lovely food, Zwieback - looking very healthy - for manning the door, and to Charles and the boys from ZZZ Hacker for being great company and a big help. Morning then became mid morning, and it was time to get ready for the Bielefeld carnival.  Sheesh.
