Yesterday we woke up at the leisurely hour of 11 and went into Costa Coffee where we all spent £5+ on coffee and bread-based products. Bargain! I had a hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream though, pretty decadent.
Then after a lot of faffing about we clambered into the Tornado and drove for an hour and a half up to Glasgow. It was our first time north of the border as a band so we were pretty juiced up. It was a beautiful drive on a beautiful day so spirits were high.
When we arrived in Glasgow it was officially unbelievably cold so we nipped into a café/bar called 13th Note. If you ever go to Glasgow you must go to this place as it is an incredible food emporium...I chowed down on a tandoori halloumi wrap, it was damn tasty. The other Scholars veggie burgers and Mark had an organic cheesecake. It was amazing and we left for King Tuts feeling satisfied and full.
King Tuts is, I am told, legendary and you can see why. It's a petite but perfectly formed house of rock. We were presented with a menu upon arrival (!) and told to choose what we wanted...amazing. Of course we'd not long munched at 13th Note so it was quite hard to get it down us but it was delicious so we tried our darndest.
With Leeds having gone okay we were a bit less nervous than the night before but only marginally...we were still utterly bricking it at playing with two amazing bands in front of a load of people in an excellent venue. Once we were up there we had a whale of a time though and seemed to win the Glaswegians over, which was nice. Sam tore his trousers mid-set but ploughed on valiantly, all the while fearing that he was flashing his pants (or worse) to the audience. You could admittedly argue that the Scots would be used to such sights what with kilts and so on, but you can appreciate the poor boy's fear of flashing the Crown Jewels to the front row.
Our new song 'Alright' (not a cover of the 1995 Supergrass hit unfortunately) seems to be going down nicely so it looks to become a permanent fixture in the set...come along to a show and check it out, yo!
After playing we spoke to lots of very nice people who generally seemed to think we were good, hurrah! We shifted more of our new t-shirts and hoodies so if you're interested in getting in on that action either get yerself to a show or order from Big Cartel lest they run out.
After witnessing the powerful rock forces of Canterbury and Hundred Reasons and feeling humbled we got into the Tornado and headed back for Carlisle. En route our manager Mark regaled us with tales of his touring life with various crazy bands over the past 15 years. That man has lived. Tom recounted in graphic detail the time he was bopped in the face by a horrible bastard from round our area and how he lost his front teeth. That's right - Tom has two false teeth. You might be interested to learn that he's not the only Scholar with two false teeth - I lost my two front teeth in a rollerblading accident aged 14.
So now you know - Scholars have only 4 real front teeth between them. That's an average of one each!
We arrived at the beautiful Carlisle Todhills Travelodge at 3am...sleep was urgently required since we were getting up bright and early to head down to Bristol, which is a bloody long way away. The Thekla is apparently a boat so it's another Scholars first!
See you in Bristol/London/Norwich/Portsmouth/Brighton/Nottingham?
