For the
past several weeks I have been reporting in Savannah Talks Troy Anthony Davis on
the case of Georgia death-row inmate Davis, and slain police officer Mark
Allen MacPhail counting down to a Supreme Court decision that was not
expected until September 2009. The U.S.’s highest court, however,
unexpectedly handed down its historic decision on August 17 to grant Davis a new evidentiary hearing.
This case on its surface may appear to be about determining truth and justice
but it also involves quite a bit more. It involves one family’s grief over someone
they loved and were forced to bury twenty years ago, and another family’s
determination to prevent the execution of someone they love and believe
innocent of the murder charge against him. For a look behind the Supreme
Court’s surprise decision and stories examining related issues, I invite you
read Savannah
Talks Troy Anthony Davis and familiarize yourself with this compelling case
of justice and family love in America.
