So here we are near the start of another footie (that's soccer to my american friends) season. The sport that, in my opinion, lies dying. Killed by TV, murdered by cash. Y'see, I grew up with this sport; going to games, watching on TV. I lived for it when I was a kid. Because back then the players had a sense of pride. They played for the joy of the game, considering themselves fortunate to be paid for doing something they loved. They wanted to wear that shirt, those colors. Then came the curse of satellite television and its endless pockets. In theory, Sky Sports TV would inject enough cash into the game to guarantee its' future. A nice ideal but instead its' created a monster-a bunch of talentless, money grabbing excuses for players who clearly can't be bothered. To them football now represents a pay cheque, yet the fans who actually pay it have the audacity to expect these so called athletes to actually show up and play a football match! How dare we?! After all these mincing nancy boys have the latest designer purse to buy in between more outrageous wage demands (are you listening, Chelsea fans? You know the fat lazy twerp I mean). No more sweating blood for the team, for the win, for the cause. Hell no. Just overpaid losers crying to the press how they need no less than 7 million pounds a year to survive. You can keep the game now. I've turned my back; it breaks my heart to say it but the sport I've loved since 4th grade I now despise. All because of a few quid.
