This last weekend I was with my fellow brothers and sisters at the Flavor Fest in Tampa Bay Florida. If your not up on what that is check it out at www.flavorfest.org. It is held at a Church called crossover with Urban D as the leader of the congregation. While I was there my wife was at home with my sister. I missed her and and did not like having to leave her behind, she is my best friend. The question I was asking myself while I was there was at what point does family and ministry of music cross? I hear a lot of rappers and ministers in the church talk about it. I know the answer to the question, but I wonder how many may get it twisted.
The answer to the question of Family v. Ministry starts here:
God is a God of order
Lets start with this verse 1 Cor 14:40 But all things should be done with regard to decency and propriety and in orderly fashion. (The Amplified Bible)
God likes things done in order..when things get out of order they get twisted...so what comes first?
Your family is your first ministry...there is no way around this..If you are having problems at home you should attend your home problems. Take care of your wife and children and do not ignore your total family.
"If anyone wants to provide leadership in the church, good! But there are preconditions: A leader must be well-thought-of, committed to his wife...He must handle his own affairs well, attentive to his own children and having their respect" 1 Tim 3:1-4
"If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever." 1 Tim 5:8
Relatives is the key word in the second scripture. This means outside of your house! Your Grandma, Mom, Dad, Sister, Cousins. You can not save the world, but if they need help you should try to help them. Hopefully this opens things up a little..discuss it and get back at me if you want to chop it up..Love Yall!
