Mostly the tracks in the player are tracks from the late 70s or early 80s recorded by a band called Dry Rib but in a couple of cases, I , one Robert Vasey, have recorded faithfully and truly, being of supposedly sound and sane mind, other things and thrown them in as things that I feel can pass in a Dry Rib vein. Well I just try to make things more interesting that's all.
Anyway the new invented Dry Rib obtusely related song is called Ex Nihil Abundancia and you can listen to it if you like. It allows me to riff a little sheet about some technical areas.
When I played in Dry Rib (which started in late 1977 though the band was not called that at that point) I played a fender stratocaster guitar and an orange combo amplifier and that was all I used throughout the history of my part in the band. Never a pedal except the reverb pedal which came with the amp. There was a tremolo pedal as well but I never used that. I used the reverb to good effect I always whacked the treble right up so when the reverb was switched on you knew about it.
In those days I did own a pedal. It was a colorsound wah-wah pedal which I had acquired in 1974. I'm not sure why I never used it with Dry Rib, I guess the wah-wah was a bit frowned on as being too funky in those punk/post-punk days. It was probably more a case of trying to get to grips with what I was doing without any added elements of surprise. I used it a few times with as,hem, syrup usually only for one song though (Wound). The only time I used it for recording was for my experimental piece of nonsense called Fool's Gold which you can hear at the moment at the as,hem, syrup myspace page.
I've still got my colorsound wah-wah and recently had it overhauled so I can use it again. And that's the tie-in between the track and this blog.
If you're in Bristol on Thursday evening I'm playing under the name Neureille at The Amoeba Bar in Clifton Village. I'll be doing 2 sets and it will be me on vocals and my spanish guitar, Gina Griffin on violin and Carles Rodoreda on percussion. A lot of new material but probably a couple of songs from Whose Last Trickle such as In The Train, An Owl and maybe Upwards. I've never met Gina so it will be the first time we've played together and I will teach her the songs as we do them. Everyone I meet who knows her tells me what a fantastic musician she is. We're going to try and play Ex Nihil Abundancia I hope towards the end of the 2nd set because it can rock a bit.
