Man can choose his evolution in different ways. One direction is
toward domination and as a warrior and the other toward peace,
understanding and knowledge.

Man is also in a position for the first time in history, to
choose his own fate with destruction from war genetic
manipulation of animal and plant life, or the loss of nature.

The difference in the domination and growth  of man lies in the
chemical changes in the body, caused by a peaceful existance.
Those striving for peace band together to dominate over
terrorists, or the easily angered. Primate cultures are 50 times
more prone to violence because the primates lack the skills to
dominate over those prone to violence.  Man's evolution has been
guided by the opposing traits of violence and knowledge. With
violence we can gain control over others in the short term.
Getting them to do our bidding for us and gaining power and
riches in the short term. This short sighted approach is what
created several countries and political powers we still have
today and some still use anger to control their actions.

With knowledge we can gain power through technology and a
balance of nature but this takes numbers to move ahead since the
violent try to rule over what they see as weakness. Over the
centuries knowledge and information has been suppressed and
destroyed. To keep the masses from gaining control. As has been
done in the dark ages.

No other time in history has man been able to change his course
so easily. We all know of nuclear warfare and cloning. But as we
are still tied to this earth, we can easily change our balance
of nature with genetic engineering and the changing of weather
patterns. As our ecological diversity shrinks so also does our
future chances for prosperity. We are now at the pinnacle of
prosperity partially due to overuse of our natural resources.
How we choose to continue is up to us.

With the two opposing traits of violence and knowledge we must
look at the long term view and gain a balance of each. To have
peace we must protect and defend it. To gain knowledge we must
be aware that knowledge can be used both ways. To avoid the
extinction of man either slowly or quickly we have to stand
firmly against those who are trying to dominate us and to use
knowledge to return to a harmony with nature.

The next 100 years will probably see less natural resources
available to us, causing more anger and frustration leading to
more violence. It is our charge to dominate over those prone to
violence and use a base of knowledge to overcome our own
difficulties. The fate of the Easter Island culture is an
example of where we are headed as a planet. The Easter Islanders
cut down all their trees in a power grab over each other, and in
turn couldn't make boats to fish and feed themselves. Our urges
and desires are the same as theirs today. That is why we need to
change our own consciousness.

I see our situation on this planet as someone who gets a
paycheck once a month and has everything spent in two weeks. If
we can't make it last 5 weeks we are only getting behind.
