For those of you know know me, at least in passing this may seem a bit out of character, but I was once a poet. Mind you I had motivation at the time. I was digging through my old emails and came across a draft of an email I sent long ago to my first girlfriend. Contained within was the following poem. It's a bit sappy but hey, I figured why not share it?

If I were forced to decide,
between your smile and your eyes,
I'm sure I would be riven to make such an impossible decision.

For your eyes are two bright gems,
and as such do I treasure them.
And if I could but spend my days,
Forever wrapped in their warm embrace,
I'd be sure each day was well spent,
And my heart would be naught but content.

And your smile is sweet and warm,
A perfection of grace in its form.
It can be small as though it keeps a secret,
Or it can be bright and beautiful for all who see it.

With your sweet smile and warm gaze,
You have my heart within a gilded cage,
That waits on a shelf that people see,
But only you keep a gilded key.

So if I were forced to decide,
Between your smile and your eyes,
I could not bring myself to try,
For if I did my heart would die.
Because your sweet smile and warm gaze,
Are what bring it food in its cage.

Well there you go, for the sake of little else to post, I share this old love poem I wrote long ago. Enjoy! reflect!

Well Sam....how wonderful!  It sounds like something a 19th century poet would compose.  You have rhythm and rhyme and convoluted structure...but it's just down right romantic.  Perhaps your first love was too young to appreciate her budding composer!  Perhaps you could write a little more.  And you don't have to write only about eyes and smiles.  You could compose on the KKK, or Jack the Ripper or Nuclear Terrorism, or better yet, George Bush.  But I realize you aren't a politically opinionate jackass (thank God!) so maybe you just want to stick to eyes and smiles.  Lucky, lucky lady who figures out you're more than just another 22 year old college student...but a handsome, talented, intelligent young man!

That's really cool S!  I'm wholly awful at poetry and it's just great to see that isn't a genetic thing!
