kapuchon & benny rodrigues- unexpected ep (beyond records 002)
a1: and again a2: unexpected b1: potato tomato
release: january/february 09
Review
The next installment from the new Beyond imprint is with us, featuring two newcomers from the thriving US underground: Kapuchon & Benny Rodriques. The pair bring a magical detroit infused collection of warm, urgent and modern house music into our peripheral vision where its simply hard to ignore … Like a well loved vintage drum machine tweaked to perfection, or a dusty old synth rejuvinated, „And Again“ draws inspiration from the rich synthesised landscapes of classic detroit techno, however adds a totally fresh and modern aesthetic, through its use of precise drum fills and beatifully crafted harmonies. On a more thoughful, soulful tip, „Unexpected“ unravells itself with smooth chord atmospheres, driving, solid-state percussion and teasing delay fx. The story might be a familar one to those who have their ears firmly pressed to the dancefloor, but for good reason, as these two fine storytellers have crafted a golden moment for the late, late hours. The acidic ride of „Potato Tomato“, with its pushing sub bass and glistening crescendos is perhaps the toughest cut of the E.P, and delivers the energy where its needed whilst still holding onto that classic, deep-as-dawn chicagotodetroit vibe.

kapuchon & benny rodrigues- the finger ep (spinclub 003)
a: the finger b: the other finger
release: december 08/january 09
INFO: It might seem ironic that one of the possibly most chilled out and relaxed Techno tracks in history comes from no other city than Rotterdam, originally best known for a slightly harder sound. It took one of the veterans and one of the most talented rookies of this city to make this happen. We are actually at least as delighted as we are surprised! The story goes that a few years ago, two like-minded souls met in the clubs of Rotterdam. Benny Rodrigues the veteran and Kapuchon the rookie. They knew right away that they had some collective work to do. “The Finger EP” is one of the remarkable results of this co-operation. Right from the start you can feel these guys have something to say. There is this certain elegance in the choice of the beat sounds, which makes “The Finger” exceptional and pleasant from the start. For a whole minute the beat just runs with a latent promise of something big to happen. Then the first synthesizer sounds appear in a seriously dubbed out way, flying on loads of delay, spread out and expanding. Every single one of them develops with clarity, substance and depth. Every effect has a destination. Sometimes the track seems to end, just to start again in the most stripped down and enjoyable way. When Chris Liebing first heard “The Finger”, he signed it for Spinclub Recordings before the track was actually over. Since then he has played it all over the world and tested it wherever he went. With its brilliant combination of Techno and Dub it has proven to be a reliable dance floor filler. The additional track “The Other Finger” is an independent and notable alternative with a House vibe and spoken vocals. We are very exited to welcome our Spinclub/Ibiza resident Benny Rodrigues and his partner in crime Kapuchon on our emerging label. We cannot help it but feel pleased and blessed by this outstanding release, hoping it will receive the attention it deserves.

DC on this release: "This is a true Jacking release that is full of Chicago heritage touched by upcoming Dutch techno stars of the future."

Rolando: both tracks are slammin!!! will play for sure - got my full support Len Faki: "dinges" is amazing! will kill the floor! The Advent: Very nice, 'dinges' reminds me of early techno.. like Dan bell & some joey beltram..when techno had balls... good release & production! Ade Fenton: Proper Chicago influenced techno. Really liking both tracks, the dancefloor reaction to both is phenomenal. Cari Lekebusch: ima flaunt both trax asap -- my faves the A on this one, but i really like both. Got a weakness for chicago styled jack vibes since way back Darko Esser: a killertune wich has been ripping up clubs when I play it! The B-side is a monster as well, proper techno baby!! Charted at no 2 this month Frank Kusserow: Dinges is my favourite tune, big jackin.. techno vibes from the past, brought into the next century! DJ Hyperactive: Good stuff here ! I'll support it here in Los Angeles. The folks still love harder techno in Cali!!!!
iDJ mag review: AFROJACK & BENNY RODRIGUES - DINGES EP - WHITE NOISE (uk) 003 After a couple of fine releases courtesy of Frank Kusserow and Woody McBride, it's time for Dutch producers Afrojack and Benny Rodriguez to show what their made of on Dave Clarkes new White Noise label.
Kicking off with the awesomely original 'Dinges' which is pounding with lead f/x which twist and turn all over the place, making it stand out head and shoulders above a lot of the competition.
Next up 'Something (in English)' continues right where they left off, but replacing the f/x with more old school pads and is another fine example of what these guys are all about... Check it! K1 **** RECOMMENDED ...............................................................................................................................................
darko esser & benny rodrigues- slaapgebrek ep (wolfskuil records 013)
a: slaapgebrek b: slaapgebrek 'l.s' mix
releasedate: july 2008
Long time friends and studiopartners Darko Esser and Benny Rodrigues team upfor their first ever appearance on Wolfskuil Records. Both are well knownfigures in the Dutch dance scene and even beyond.
Last year they released their duo debut on Darren Emerson’s Underwaterimprint, entitled ‘Paradox’ wich received massive support from the industry andwas played out by international jocks like Josh Wink, Derrick May, Technasia,Pete Tong a.o. This is their second release with many more to follow.
Long and sleepless nights were the inspiration for ‘Slaapgebrek’ wich meanssleep deprivation in Dutch. The results of these sessions are two moody &hallucinogenic tracks, wich represent a state of mind only to be experiencedafter many restless nights. The original mix with it’s freaked out shuffleddrumpatterns, rave stabs and maximal modulated bassline is peaktime dancefloorfudder for any crazed techno night. Frustrated bleeps and FX give it a nervoustwilight zone like feel, climaxing and clashing throughout the track. Theflipside takes things on a lighter, more emotion ridden tip. The rhythm isstripped down of all nastiness and the bassline friendlier and melodic. Halfwaythrough the break the violins kick in, resembling the break of dawn afteranother night of turning and twisting without getting any much deserved rest.Perfect afterhour material.
Laurent Garnier – "yeap yeap yeap mister, i will play that a LOOOOT"
Hernan Cattaneo – "Lab mix is good for me."
DJ Yellow – "Great trax from my boyz Darko and benny... Love the laboratoire subtile mix..."

Nuno Dos Santos – "Yess!!! Great follow up by these two brothers in crime! Labaratoire mix is def the one here for me.. Reminds me of old Garnier tracks.. Probably why the version is called labaratoire.. :) More of this please.."
Rene Amesz – "Love the original. So original. So crunchy but laidback at the same time. Will support this one these coming months."
