On the 16th of April 2009 live artist Lady Kitt will be honoring local places and people by “FrAme-ing” them. “FrAm-ed” is a project running as part of Bishop Auckland’s art festival Art Land. Between March 2nd and April 2nd 2009 local people are being asked to nominate unique or inspiring spots in the town (and fellow Bishop Aucklanders) to become part of the project which will include both a performance and an exhibition.
The performance on April the16th will take the form of a guided “art walk”, the route of which will include stops at nominated places/ people.
During the performance Lady Kitt will stand for ten minutes at a time in front of each nominated person/ landscape, framing them with a variety of empty frames. This action and the stories behind each individual nomination will be explained to passers-by and viewers by actor Daley Baber-Allen and documented by photographer Toby Lloyd with still images and video. The images and video will then be exhibited in various venues around Bishop Auckland between April 23rd and April 26th
For centuries 2D images have been ornately framed in order to lend them importance. This work explores views of local places; people and experiences by physically placing them within a space traditionally reserved for art, asking questions about what (and who) art can, or should, be.
