Donna Michaels announces the winner of her contest to celebrate the release of - Thanks for Giving.

The Iraq hero I would love to name is Paul Rieckhoff. He served in Iraq and came back home to write CHASING GHOSTS - a book that tells of the hardships our soldiers are going through in Iraq. His goal is to inform Washington and all citizens of what is needed to make the war easier for our soldiers. They are there to fight. They shouldn't have to do without necessities so they can do their jobs better. I applaud his efforts 100 percent.

I've always had questions about the Iraqi War ever since it began. What is it like for the soldiers fighting in the volatile areas?  Do they get a break to find some peace of mind? How do they feel when their date to come back home is pushed back?

Paul Rieckhoff took me on an uncensored journey of the Iraqi War and I saw it through his First Lieutenant and Infantry Platoon Leader's eyes. I appreciate his candid disclosures about his worries and concerns. We have a right to know what our soldiers are going through so we can support them with our whole hearts, minds, and abilities.  Those men and women are laying their lives on the line for us. They deserve the best of everything!  And they deserve our utmost respect when they return to us.

Thank you, Paul Rieckhoff, and all who serve.

Sincerely,

Nancy Locke

I applaude Paul Rieckhoff for his bravery to stand up and tell the world his story of the true happenings in Iraq.  The life of freedom as he knew it before war no longer exists.  His mind holds constant reminders of a war ravaged country that will never go away; pictures that no one should have to see.

My young friend spent over a year there.  He lived from day to day, not knowing if he would come home to see his two beautiful girls grow up.  I thank the good Lord that he did make it home...finally!  My prayer now is that this war will end and America's mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, wives, husbands, and children will have their loved ones returned safely before anymore lives are lost.  Enough blood has been shed.  It is time for Iraq to take command of their country so our young men and women can come home where they belong.  I pray this won't take too much longer.

While in Washington D.C. this last summer, I took many photographs.  My favorite, and most thought provoking, is a picture of our flag, displaying brilliant colors of red, white and blue.  In the same picture, flying just a little lower, is the black P.O.W. flag.  Both a reminder that as we go about our great country living free, there are those who have traveled thousands of miles away to preserve this freedom.

They fight for something that we take for granted every day.  What if our freedom is taken away one day?  What if we are forced to live under another countries rule?  What if...?
