Current mood: tired
Man, this blog is ugly. I mean, seriously. Really, really not pretty. Well, I'm taking an HTML/CSS course this term, so, hopefully, I'll be able to spruce things up soon-like. Huzzah!
Anyways, this is just a little update on recent life happenings. As some of you may know, I recently played my first show at Buoy, in Kittery, ME! It was a fantastic and intense experience, and I am really looking forward to doing more such work in the near future. I feel that I have a lot to learn as a performer, and a lot of work to do if I'm going to put on a truly excellent show - however, for the first time in a long time, I feel like that goal is within my grasp, and I've been spending much of my time figuring out how to make things better! Hopefully, each show will be a little crazier and more engaging than the previous one.
Some highlights of the first show included me stepping on the power strip running my mixer and electronics which out the first 8-minute song halfway through, a brief recitation of poetry composed by audience members, and seeing 30 people levitate a pig, poofy lounge rug with their dancing shoes. Some things I'd like to improve: more planning, more refinement, more crowd interaction, more instruments available for people to play, more refined control over mixing on my end, contact mics that don't break after one performance. Oh, and zentai catsuits.
Also, after a week of mild misery and fretting after breaking up with my girlfriend and being told my college career is in the toilet, I've managed to pull myself together and get back on track. My plan is to take a slew of computer science and sound design courses at Brandeis and a couple of courses in sound design for video games online, e.g. over the summers, etc. After I graduate (in a year and a half) I'll have a psych degree with a computer science minor. I'll tour for a year - if I can make enough money doing that, I'll keep doing it, and if not (which is probably the most likely outcome) I'll apply for a job as a sound guy for video games. If that doesn't go through (also fairly likely) I'll go to grad school for music tech and try to land myself a cushy job as a university professor, which would allow me to do my own music on the side. I feel better knowing that I'm on a track - that my goals are somewhat solidified.
In other, less interesting news, I'm back to pseudo-veganism and I'm taking a fitness class so I might actually be able to do some parkour this summer (three years after my initial plan suggested, but, better late than never, I suppose)!
That is all!
