It is with a very heavy heart we have to tell you all that the Underground will be closing at the end of June. It is not the church that's closing us down, we just cant meet all of our expenses. I would love it if you would all come to an upcoming show so we can finish out with a strong May/June! It's my greatest hope that we would be able to have this venue rest, and hopefully someday open again, but as for now, it's over. Our last show will be June 28th.
I've appreciated working with all the bands, and I have learned so much in the short time I've been doing this. I want to thank everyone for adding to this time for me personally, I've had a blast!

Thanks friends!

The Churches Statement:

Valley Springs Church regrets to announce that the Underground will be closing its doors. This has been a painful decision. The final show will be Saturday, June 28, 2008. It has been a privilege for Valley Springs to host and oversee the ministry of the Underground for the past five years. However, because of the church's inability to provide leadership and oversight for the kind of effective ministry we envision for the Underground, it has become necessary to close its doors. Although financial viability is a concern, it is not the only reason for this decision. The Underground Management Team agrees with this decision. There are no present plans to reopen in the foreseeable future. Valley Springs sincerely thanks all who have made the Underground a well-respected all-age concert venue for the whole Sacramento region. Musicians, bands, staff, promoters, agents and ministry volunteers have all contributed, and we are truly grateful for everyone's efforts and participation.

David George, Senior Pastor

I for one could care less that this venue is shutting down its about time, and I am for sure not the only one glad to see it go away. The shows were terrible after certain people left and certain people were put in charge. As for the expenses not being able to be paid, that's only because there was too much money put into worthless shows that no one came too. There was once a feud between The Underground and other venues, and this venue lost because people felt alienated and pushed aside.

PLEASE DONT OPEN THIS VENUE AGAIN..

I Swear were like 5 sad years away from local music being a thing of the past.

its sad because these shows were for people who actually cared about music, i guess most people don't understand that anymore though.

over the past two years ive seen 5 local music venues shut down in Nor-Cal, and its pretty depressing to see another one go.

its going to suck when local bands are playing on street corners making way for tour buses full of overpaid Major label drones.

hopefully that wont happen in my lifetime.

Im sorry to see you guys go, hopefully you'll re-open someday.

"It is not the church that's closing us down..."
"However, because of the church's inability to provide leadership and oversight for the kind of effective ministry>/u> we envision for the Underground..."

that is contradicting itself right there...
so you're closing because the church can't monitor kids?
a venue should not run to praise god, it should run to play music and allow kids to have a good time and make new friends.
way to go

I went there when you guys first open and I was kicked out for my shirt. I guess it was to bloody. It was nice that you guys entertain the kids though. Not to many all age venues in the area. I thought the church was non profit? Wouldn't the church envision a place for kids to go to a show at a safe place? I think you guys should stay open.

We need more All age Venues in Sac ! ! ! This is why the music scene in sacramento is going downhill. Major loss for this scene to see a venue who has had so many great bands go through it.
