As a "radio personality", I've been asked to do some things that one might not normally encounter in their average work day; I've bunjee jumped live on the air with a cordless mic in my hand, I've raced on a dirt track (fun!) and I've even dressed up as a Las Vegas drag queen for my work in, "I Now Pronounce you Chuck and Larry" (oh, those wacky dj's). But now, I think I may have bitten off a bit more than I can chew.
I've been asked to participate in this year's, "Dancing With Desire", a charity fundraiser in which local celebs are teamed up with professional dancers (sound familiar?). Yes, I have a sense of timing, can keep a beat and probably won't embarrass myself totally. But, do I consider myself a "dancer"?. Hell no.
Sure, I've taken tap and jazz lessons in an attempt to broaden my acting/entertaining skills, but that was years ago. I took some swing dance lessons late last year and had a blast doing it. But that still doesn't mean that I'm gonna be able to do myself (and my dance partner) proud when I take to the stage for my dancing debut in June.
I understand that Tony Dovolani, from Dancing With The Stars, will be participating in the event this year but, no, I don't expect I'll be teamed up with him. After all, this isn't Blades Of Glory.
I just hope that, whoever she is, my partner not only has the patience of a saint, but I'm hopeful that, for her own piece of mind and safety, her dancing shoes have steel toes.
This should be fun. After all, it doesn't really matter how much I may suck.........it's not my day job.
I'll be heading to the dance studio this week; they want to give me a few, "preliminary classes" before teaming up with my professional partner. "Preliminary classes", to me, means, "....let's see what this clod can do."
Friday, May 2
So I went to the dance studio Wednesday, met with my partner to be, Kimalee, and I managed to get through the session without any major blunders (that's one in a row). We went through a number of basic moves; waltz, rhumba and a bit of swing.
We'll be getting together again Tuesday after she returns from her weekend show in Los Angeles; we'll probably decide what dance we're gonna end up doing in the show. Not sure why but I'm feeling like she's gonna pick a rhumba for us to do. We'll see if I'm right.
