noema is the alter ego of guitarist, DJ, composer, producer and event manager David Günther.

His musical journey started when he was six years old with guitar lessons while growing up in Wiesbaden, Germany. He would later also go on to receive training in piano playing, jazz guitar and music theory. Besides various bands and big bands, he played in a popular guitar duo from 1997 to 2001, giving over 70 concerts and winning the 2000 Hempel Foundation award in the process.

Even in his teens certain of his desire to be a musician, David after his first Berlin trip, aged 14, realized that this was where he wanted to study music. After completing his school education he therefore immediately moved to the German capital and took up studying classical guitar at the “Hanns Eisler” Academy of Music. Besides this main topic, his studies are primarily focused on compositional technique and analysis, both of which are required for the thesis he was working on: a composition for chamber music ensemble and ventilators (which you can hear in the player)
In addition to his involvement in classical music, David has furthermore worked as a studio guitarist for Daniel Wang, Apparat, Basement Jaxx and Georg Levin as well as collaborating on a number of songs with Roberta Sweed (Mahagoni Music – Detroit).

He is furthermore a live band member of „Wahoo“, a project run by DJ Dixon and Georg Levin, with whom he recorded Georgs new Solo Album (coming out soon on BBE) recently.
Not long after his first DJing engagement in 1997, David in 1999 also started organizing events himself. Initially favouring a very free kind of freestyle, his musical predilections permanently changed following his first nights spent at the Robert Johnson Club in Offenbach, which he would visit weekly in its early days. Apart from some of the world’s best house DJs, whom he was able to experience there, the greatest influence on David’s style was provided by the sets of resident DJ Ata with their classic house sound. Ever since then, David's primary focus has been on mixing house, Detroit techno and disco in a traditional American manner.

At his own events such as the “Expansion” gigs and “Menschen am Sonntag/People on a Sunday”, run in cooperation with DJ Rndm (Pigon - Dial Rec.), he has performed alongside live acts such as Jamie Lidell, Mocky, Fujiya & Miyagi and Ye Solar, as well as DJs including Àme, Efdemin, Kaos, Carsten Jost, Prosumer, Daniel Wang, A Guy called Gerald and Lexx. In addition, David has also been spinning in Berlin locations such as Kinzo (residency), Rio, Watergate, Deep, Tape (residency), Scala and in further clubs in Germany. In this respect, he is moreover a regular guest in various Zurich venues.
