"COLLECTORS GUIDELINES"
Thank you for your interest in becoming a 'Collector' with "EXTRA Cans For The Needy." The steps to 'Canning The World' are very simple at this point since we are so very new (only a few months now).
Step One:
Collect any & all empty bottles and cans worth a return at your movie & tv sets you work on, at your home, office, school, college campus, church, temple, pretty much anywhere you go…subways, airports, bus stations, anywhere you see bottles and cans that can be turned into 'gold' for someone else. Place these empties into a bag of sorts. (We are having gold bags made as we type, but for now we are using 'yellow' bags when we can find them but any bag will do).
Step Two:
Take aforementioned empties that you've collected and distribute them to the first homeless person or person in need that you meet. I personally will either give mine to the sweet gentleman in my neighborhood who collects every Wednesday morning. I have my neighbors doing the same. I put his name on them, "Ruben" so he knows they are for him.
What most of us are doing is going downtown or to parks or simply at the end of a highway ramps where these Angels are asking for help and we 'give them some help' by handing over bags of empties. The result has been astonishing and beautiful. They are shocked and touched and some ask "WHY? Are you all doing this?" And we respond with "Because we want to."
Yes, it's THAT simple gang.
We are setting up Partnerships with some wonderful Homeless Shelters and Outreaches so people can drop off their cans and bottles and our Partners will cash them in and distribute daily cash allowances to those in need. This is not in place yet since we are so very new.
So for now, the one on one connection is remarkable for everyone involved. No one has to feel embarrassed or ashamed anymore. You have the opportunity to bless these Angels, your brothers and sisters for one moment and time and remind them that they are NOT alone anymore.
If you are having trouble finding a Homeless person to hand your cans over to there are a couple of options...One is to check on-line for our "Homeless Alert" when people give us areas they have seen where there are many people in Need...for example, AMEBA in Hollywood always has at least a dozen Homeless Angels that would LOVE to be blessed by you...
If this doesn't work, you can contact us by email and we'll have one of our Collectors come to you to pick them up.
The important thing is to get the empties to these beautiful people in need so they can eat, clothe themselves, whatever...
