Another trip to the Dingle Peninsula in County Kerry ireland, and the discovery of the holy wells. It took 5 years of annual travels to finally discover two more wells, one in a field in Anascaul, marked with an ogham stone, and one at Minard Castle, marked with a stone with a salmon on it and the words, "tobar eoin". A local woman named Bridina kindly offered to take me there, and taught me the ceremony involving a mixture of celtic godess worship and christianity. Of course i knew of the well in the "valley of the mad", but i had never drank from the wells before this year. E-coli came to my mind, but Bridina just took a cup in her hand, filled it from the well, spoke the word "trust", and drank wholeheartedly. I followed. We each tied a rag to a limb above the well, associated a word with the rag, so as to leave it behind to disintegrate with the elements. cancer and fear are left at the rag well.
