Category: Art and Photography

Okay, it’s almost been a month since lil old me gingerly logged into this page for the first time.

Since then, we held one themed contest with the lowest participation level ever  - upset one or the other "friend" by not always including blog links into the bulletins, added a banner section and a couple of tribute slide shows for past winners (making up for when I was slacking ), turned the contest rules upside down  (this could be fun) and there’s more to come!

Let me mention right here that it’s just me at the moment. My friend Valerie is battling some personal issues (((sending her good vibessssss))) that prevent her from spending much time online - and she so loves us and photography. ** I miss you **  and hope you’re back soon! And worry not, I’ve got it covered (I think) .

With that said, here are some things that are going through my mind while at work (no worries, my boss ain’t myspacin’ LOL).  New stuff for my photo friends!

1) Comment Craving
I place all my bets on this one LOL ...
Okay, here is the idea:  ever had that "OMG, look at that shot!" moment where all you want to do is show it to the world, but spouse is at work, kids in school, sadly pets seem to have zero artistic appreciation - so all you really have are your dear MySpace friends who may or may not have the time or urge to stop by for a comment?  Submitting photos for critiquing isn’t for everybody, but I know of nobody who will turn up their nose at photo comments.

I’ll make a photo folder called Comment Craving, where you can request your photo to be placed and tagged to your myspace page, for commenting.

In order to keep this workable for me, let’s start with everybody can submit ONE PHOTO per month, so make sure it’s worth it!   Please consider that photos submitted for the comment craving program may not be entered in any of our contests.
Let’s see how this goes. I will post a blog when we’re open to tell you how to submit.

2) Blogger of the Month
I think our bloggers do a wonderful job and deserve some appreciation for their contributions. If you have been participating ALOT, in any running month, send me a message through MySpace at the end of the month and a line up of the blogs you’ve answered that month. It’s a little work for you to keep track of your posts but if you care for this reward, you’ll get a spot on our main page with one of your photos and link to your page, as well as a spot in our top friends for the month.

3) Amazing Amateurs
I want to start a program that will give amateur photographers some exposure.
There will be ONE BLOG per month where AMATEURS can upload ONE photo per month, with a description of the shot, how it came about etc. This will be open to public commenting. Oh yeah on "what defines an amateur?" - if you ask yourself "am I an amateur?" more likely than not you are, and there is nothing wrong with that!  Here comes the fun part: if you’re not, you can run with the big dogs!

4) Studio Stars
I want to start a program that will give professional STUDIO/Portraiture photographers some exposure. There will be ONE BLOG per month where PROS can upload ONE photo per month, with a description of the shot, and anything else they wish to write. This will be open to public commenting.

[MP] BLOG MONITOR: Depending on participation, I may need someone to help me monitor these two blogs.

5) Artist Lounge
Photography is an art form, we can all agree on that. However, some people take this to a different level.  I would love to see a part of our main page featuring artists that take shots way out there, along the lines of what Chrissy does. I haven’t thought of  an incentive program yet but I’m leaning towards some kind of program involving [My Photographers] friend rallies/promotions to help our community grow (now that our contests are anonymous our growth rate will slow down somewhat), or create additional banners for our page that we can rotate (you can never have enough banners!!), in exchange for the monthly Artist Lounge spot with samples of your work.

OK, let me have it: ideas, criticism, improvement, feedback - bring it on.

Awesome ideas! I will be entering the default photo contest once I get some time to flip through some photos and pick one... I am so indecisive when it comes to my photos. Also, I am looking forward to the critiquing... Again, I think this will really help me out. Being an amature, and proud of it, I will go down that road too! I am so excited to get into all this action with this group, but finding time is usually hard to find. :) Anyways, just wanted to say that I LOVE all these ideas! Keep up the great work!

Sounds like alot of work, but they're all good ideas!

Hehe so my art is "way out there??" HAHAHA XD Would be great to have a special place for special work ;)

I guess if I had any suggestions... maybe to keep things a bit more in order... you could designate certain days of the week to certain things ... ie Monday is Photography Question Day where all the questions you've gotten from the past week will be posted and nothing else. That was the blogs stay a bit clean instead of having a question here, critique there, showcase there, etc. Just a thought :)

Good luck!

PS- If you need a moderator to pop in when they see negativity, I might be able to help. I log into MySpace about once a day... I know it's not much but I could be a bit of help :)

thanks for your feedback, everybody. Chrissy, thanks for the offer to help. I will consider it if I need it.

I have thought about the "doing certain things on certain days" part but am not yet sold on it. People will send stuff whenever they think about doing it. :) If I don't go in and post that within a day or two, I'll have to dig through a week's worth of messages and then pile it all in. Also, keeping the flow going makes for almost daily news here so to speak.

Doing it as I go has been working OK so far. It will be a bit more work with the Comment Craving, uploading and tagging pics once a day. But I think it's worth it keeping the traffic to the page going - the tagging of the photos is going to create some attention also.

The rest: the two blog ones are going to be more or less self-sustaining, once opened - except for the monitoring, I'm not planning opn being involved beyond that. Most people here are good about not overstepping, So I'm not too worried.
The Artist Lounge and Blogger of the Month will be a once a month deal and the major part of that work will lie with those who want the spotlight, if those program will generate any interest that all, that is. :)

Cool, I'm glad you have the energy for this :) That's the main thing for keeping this going is energy and dedication and you've got it!

I really like the idea of the same day of the week is a particular thing. It would help with the flow of things and maybe help folks remember when things are suppose to be on here.

I am the queen of organization, I compartmentalize compartments. LOL :)~

But here, it's tricky, myspace isn't made for "organizing" messages. It will be harder for me to go back into my inbox and dig through a week's worth of messages. Don't really want to direct general blog things to my personal email. That is reserved for photo submissions.

Teaching people to only submit stuff on certain days is a great concept but not realistic. The community is too large, I'm already having trouble getting the contest photos submitted according to the instructions.

Sooooo.... it's SUBSCRIBING to that blog, and keeping an eye on it and the bulletins :)

Thanks!

Awesome ideas. Major props on being able to keep up with all of that! My only comment is just that I hope the page doesn't get overly filled up to the point that it takes forever to load. You're going a great job!

no worries, the page will be kept fast and sweet :) - 2 points will happen in the blog, one is in the pics section, so only Blogger of the Month and Artist Lounge will take up a little corner each with a collage or something.

yaaay! Sounds great, i'm excited:) Though i dont always participate in questions, asnwers, or contests, i am an avid reader. Oh, and it seems like i may end up participating a bit more. I would feel more confident participating in an ameteur contest than the regualr ones. There are oter pages where i participate in contests, but they dont have nearly the traffic that this one does, there fore there is less competition. The talent here is amazing!!!! ..
Your ideas sound great and it sounds like you have been able ot incorporate alot of the suggestions or concerns that others had mentioned a few blogs back.
Thank you again for doing all you do!
