A couple weeks ago, I went to the Minnesota Senate District 60 convention... We had over 150 resolutions to read through and vote on. These resolutions included things like universal health care for all, troops out now, environmental safeguards, the types of changes I'd like to see happen. Now I am starting to get it, maybe I really CAN help to make our country the kind of place of which I'd be proud to say I'm a citizen. The resolutions I voted on were written and introduced by people like me at small neighborhood caucuses. Until I began this journey into the Minnesota Democrat Farmer Labor Party (and I'd never been to a caucus before), I was disenchanted with our country and thought seriously about moving to Canada where they seem more progressive and they have health care for all. It was enlightening to learn that the democrats here view universal health care for all people as a primary objective in their party platform. I know a lot of other people like me have been seriously considering moving to another more progressive party ever since this whole "W" regime began. If you're like that, consider making friends with people who are involved in the government in your region, and see what happens. I would have never gone down this road this year if it weren't for my involvement in my little neighborhood newspaper "The Uptown Neighborhood News." The people I've met through the paper are all seasoned activists and being around them makes me feel like I live in Berkeley or something!
