Piñata Protest adds some latin flair to punk rock
May 6, 11:44 PM

Whoever said accordions were only for polka couldn't be more wrong. After hearing this band, you'll never look at one the same again. Piñata Protest calls themselves an "accordion powered punk band".

Even if you aren't a fluent Spanish speaker (but most of you San Antonians know enough to get the general idea) you'll love this music. Their recordings demonstrate how fun and upbeat they are in concert-whooping and hollering before songs to get the crowd worked up-they keep you moving from beginning to end.

Their first performance was supposed to be inside a local skate shop. After being kicked out by the police, they set up themselves outside the shop (appropriate move considering their band name...) and have had devoted followers since.

The Piñata Protest has one self-titled album out, which is available on their MySpace page. Their performance repitoire includes the Chicao Latino Fest 2007 and live performance on KYSM radio in San Antonio.

They will be playing at WebHouse Thursday May 14, 2009 with De Los Muertos at 8 pm.
