I'm preparing for a trip to Ottawa for the Ontario Council of Folk Festivals.

When I think about this trip, the first thing that comes to mind is scones. Not immigration officers. Not directions. Not weather. Scones.

Last year I discovered, just across the street from the Crown Plaza hotel, The Scone Witch. They don't have a website, myspace, or facebook page. They do have the best damn scones I ever tangled in my teeth. I went four times last year, and then got a another chance to go when a friend needed a ride to Ottawa from Cobourg. It's only three and a half hours.

That's the first result on google. 388 Albert Street, Ottawa, ON, Canada (613) 232-2173. See you there this weekend?

There is nothing like a good scone with a cup of tea. I was in Northern Ireland last year and I had a scone with homemade jam and some heavy cream and just a spot of "I  cant believe its not butter" I We spoke of nothing else but scones and cream for 10 days. It was life changing.

well hot damn. Here I am living right within a 25 minute drive and haven't tried the scones from this Witch you speak so highly of. Will test the wares toute suite! Safe travels and I know where we'll meet for tea if you have time when you're back in this neighbourhood!
Many happy winter Sundays when I was a kid my family would eat our supper of scones, homemade strawberry jam and cheese around the fireplace, play a game of scrabble before Walt Disney came on. Comfort.
