I recently purchased a Plant a Tree acorn ornament that say with the purchase of the ornament a tree will be planted. It wasn't cheap, I paid $10 at Yankee Candle in Massachusetts When I looked up Plant a Tree it said that there were no products at this time.
Does that mean I wasted my money and the project was done quite awhile ago. I believe the press release was in 2002 or so. How do you keep track that I bought something and a tree will be planted? How does Yankee Candle tell you I made the purchase. I really believe in the idea but don't want to get lip service and just told by Yankee Candle it will be done. I did ask at Yankee Candle if it was legit and a tree really would be planted and they said yes.
This is a gift for someone who really believes in conservation so I want to give a meaningful gift.
Please let me know.

RESPONSE
UPDATE DECEMBER 10,2008: Laurie found a website: http://www.plant-trees.org/main.htm
That outlines the Plant-A-Tree program. If you click under partnerships and then Plant-a-Tree Partnerships (http://www.plant-trees.org/partnerships/plantatree.html) You will see The Seagull Company under the 5,000 to 20,000 trees planted.
Thanks Laurie!
Carl
--------------------------------------------------------------- Laurie,
I am an independent online retailer of Seagull Pewter and also embrace the Plant-A-Tree program that Seagull launched a number of years ago.
The program still exists and Seagull continues to offer Plant-A-Tree pewter pieces.
In the last few months, I have been asked a number of times how Seagull Pewter tracks purchases and what new forest areas have been positively impacted by the Plant-A-Tree program. Tracking of purchases would actually occur at the point when merchants, like Yankee Candle, buy the Plant-A-Tree items for their stores.
As for reporting on the number of trees planted, this would be a excellent question for Seagull Pewter (which is owned by Royal Selangor - North American President - C.Y Wong. Seagull Pewter does not allow a place for you to leave an inquiry, but Royal Selangor does.
I would suggest you post your question to: http://www.royalselangor.com/rs2/feedback.php
Make a note that your question is about Seagull Pewter Plant-A-Tree program.
Would like to know the response you get from Royal Selangor/Seagull Pewter.
