3. Prison Break
About a year ago Babyman, CEO of La vida locash, told me that he really wanted to sign this girl who he claimed to be an amazing singer and song writer. She had the peculiar name Noonie Bao: I listened to her songs and loved them. Since I'm always looking for good song writers to collaborate with, I approached her on myspace (of course) and asked if she wanted to write a song with me and Patrik. The initial idea wasn't to write for Stadium Status, it was just meant to be a song to pitch to some random pop/rnb artist. As it turned out, I loved it so much I had to put it on the album, couldn't give this baby up. This is, of all the songs I've ever done, probably the one that sounds the most "swedish". You can, if you listen close enough, find small traces of swedish pop acts like Gyllene Tider and Broder Daniel. (could this be Patriks fault? I'd like to think so)
When Noonie came to the studio she was, as I later found out, incredibly hung over. She had only written the verses. They were incredible. At first the idea was to have lyrics in the place where the "na na na" is now. We came up with different lines but nothing seemed as good as the simple, word less, playground type of chant we already had. The combination of the simple melody and the borderline lyrics (the latter reminds me a bit of the stalker anthem "Ev'ry breath you take") creates an eerie tension. With dancehall type of drums. The best pop music has always been a bit creepy.
