Hong Kong was a triple treat this time around.
The primary reason we were all going was to see The Cure. Going to see them with your band and your friends is even funner. Getting to play in HK while you're there to see The Cure with your bands and your friends is the bestest.
day 1 - justin and organizer kap get sandwich and pedicab an opening slot in a club production at The Fringe featuring beijing bands. mike d, tim c, raimund, shinji (stever ricefield to you) and i take the 3pm flight. we're supposed to start the show at 730pm. the flight's only 30 minutes late but we get our luggage an hour after touchdown and we have to run to check in, run back out and get on our third train in two hours to get to central from kowloon. can you say amazing race? we get to the club finally and are given 30 min to play because well, we're late yes? it was all funness after that. pedicab played first, then sandwich. and as luck would have it, the three beijing bands that were there that night we're all in town to see the cure too so they're right up our alley. they we're all great to watch, specially hedgehog. everyone wanted to put the drummer in their bags and take her home. no kidding!
day 2 - free morning, 3pm shoot for channel v with justin (keen supporter of asian rock acts, all around nice guy, you might remember sandwich getting him to jam with us at the summer slam) at mongkok where diego nearly has a heat stroke. revived with a coke. we're done by 5pm. meet up at the asia world expo by 730 where we see the rest of the gang from imago, taken by cars, and pedicab. mitch dulce was with us. we also catch the team that manages parokya, a couple or the myx guys, and chris our emi boss, among others. there's beer outside the hall so we get a few before going in. then greatness. three hours of hits, album cuts, newer stuff, bsides...the works. robert smith is able to send whole sections of the concert hall into paroxysms with just a glare. they do two encores before the final bow. we cap the night off with ten dollar noodles.
day three - we get the word at lunch time that we're playing The Wanch. this is the same club sandwich played at last february. this time around we've got pedicab and imago with us. it's going to be fun. maria (our other hk hook up) books the club, justin borrows gear for us. imago go on first, then it's pedicab and sandwich. we're all just switching members around. jason didn't make this trip out so mong and diego play guitars for pedicab. the crowd is great. we all have a blast playing. they we all hang out on the sidewalk til 2am. a waitress is plying aia with shots of tequila. she is a happy camper in the cab. we head to the 7-11 across the hotel for pre-packed sushi and microwave dimsum.
day 4 is basically spent with last minute shopping. lotsa gear. and everyone will be showing up in the same t-shirts for the next few gigs ha ha ha!
back at home, we find out that nine inch nails are coming in september. hmmm...
