Current mood:  thankful
Category: Music

Time is a very precious commodity. Last week I attended my friend David's funeral, and was impacted in many ways about the importance of making the most of the time that is allotted to us.

At the service they read a poem that David wrote when he was only ten years old - here it is:

What is this thing passing from breath to breath

Which is endless yet so quick?

Time. Time.

Time is a book read right to the end

Time is a tree falling to the ground

Or the earth rotating on it's axis

From Atlantic to Pacific Oceans

Time is man

From Stone to Modern Age

This is the abstract span - Time.

When I first heard the poem - I was flabbergasted that it had been written by a ten year old, and also at it's profoundness. I asked for a copy of the poem and have written some music to it, which I am thinking about adding as a track to my next solo album.

In a job, an employee has to give an account for his time that he/she has spent - ie is the employer getting good use for the money they have spent on that person?

Why should it be any different for our overall lives? Each moment given to us is a privilege and a gift. In the bible it tells us that we have to give an account for our lives - God wants to know whether the gift he has given to us has been used wisely - surely he has the right!

I welcome your comments ...

Love, Phil
