So as you can see and hear, we've posted a new tune on our MySpace site - though "tune" might be a slightly misleading term. The, uh, composition is called "James Thresher Industries, Est. 2007" and was recorded in late September by the Moravian Philharmonic and conductor Vit Micka in the Czech Republic. I was in the country for five days producing orchestral sessions for the Boston-based classical label MMC Recordings, and while there I recorded a re-written, expanded, fully orchestrated version of a piece that appeared on THE AMERICAN STANDARD in '01.
After years of playing this number in some of the absolute rattiest, tattiest bars and clubs across the U.S., it was a very odd experience indeed to hear the full weight of a symphony orchestra ripping through music that previously existed only as something played by a guitar, a bass, and a bunch of drums (and sometimes a kazoo). Nuts, totally nuts.
I'll be heading there again soon to produce sessions and will certainly record more Dreadnaught music then.
Let us know what you think - should we do a full orchestral version of "(She Got The) Bony Cleave" next? No... probably not...
