Hello friends,

Here's your official heads-up that I've posted a movie I made long ago on my manager's Youtube site. Manager's name is Paul Dalen and the film is called "The Beautiful World". If you go to Youtube and do a search it should come up. It's a sort of dystopic fairy tale that in no way resembles my musical tendencies. It won a bunch of awards in the NYU film festival back in '94 and was shot in the most severely blighted neighborhoods of NYC, like East New York and Bed-Stuy. I hope you enjoy it..

We're about ready to release the Mama Lucky album that Tucker Martine and I co-produced. It's comprised of some especially off kilter songs that I wrote over the years that were deemed "too weird" to be on my "normal" albums. My friend Linda Delgado handles the vocals on this one and I play co-producer with Tucker (who produces big acts like The Decemberists and Bill Frisell and took on this project as a labor of love). Musically I do some remixing and play several different instruments and am joined by my friends Bishop Maples and Steve Ferry. Tucker lured several of his Seattle bandmates to play as well. It's a dark dreamy, trippy ride, for sure.

For those who are interested I'm working on assembling material for a show of my found art assemblages that will be appearing in a swanky art gallery in Dublin next summer. I been squirreling away weird objects that I dug out of dumpsters and found at yard sales and off beat places for years and now finally have a place to show it. If I can just figure out where I put that letter I have from a preacher to a porn star, pleading with her to come to the Lord. It reads like Summerset Maugham's "Rain".

I'm also gearing up for a tour of Australia with John Doe in March. I've done some shows with John in the past and always enjoy what he has to offer. Apparently we'll be playing a festival over there where I'll have to back up John, and vice versa. He's a crackerjack musician--knows hundreds of songs by heart, but me, I can't even remember how to play my own songs, much less someone elses.. I guess I'd better get to practicing.

Never a dull moment here in rural Georgia.

Wonderful, will you post photos of some of your assembleges? Which gallery in DUblin?

Ireland loved your music and your stories from the very start.

I think there is an mystical affity between all things southern US and Ireland, and you found that note.

You and JD make a great combo plate, blue plate special that you are boy. I've some pix of he and X in the young days on my site that I took, take a gander. Australia will be all the better for your presence there.

Cheers,
Debbie da Screech Owl

Great news that your exhibition will be in Dublin. Is that Dublin, Ireland? I hope so.

Are you going to gig over here anytime soon?

You are an inspiration.

Hey Jim,
It is a beautiful world, indeed. I got the DVD "Searching For The Wrong-Eyed Jesus" for my birthday, 12/23 (Christmas Carol). I got off on watching it again, originally appeared here in Denver, CO right after DeVotchKa toured with you. Please come to Colorado. We love you here, and DeVotchKa could open for you! Since I'm their Denver Street Team Coorindator, I'd love to volunteer to Street Team for you as well. You inspire me from the depths of my soul.

Peace & Love,
Denver Carol

Thanks for that Jim - I'll check out the film. The exhibition sounds real interesting too - you'll have to find that letter - sounds a bit like one my mate Mad Dog got from a lady vicar after he'd been drunk at a relatives wedding in Edinburgh recently.

Anyway, enjoying the live EP - saw you in Nottingham last year - come back soon!
