ONE SWITCH TO COLLISION
Korrect!!!! (Pan European
Recording/Pias)
released the 17th November
"the second before the blast, an instant before the
crash"
The name of the Parisian group single-handedly gives a
view of the harmonic tension in their first album, soberly titled Korrect.
Sweeping across the typically French vision of psyche rock (dilated pupils,
drugs and pink scarves), One switch to collision, manages to combine the spirits
of Timothy Leary, Albert Londres et Ra, God of the Sun, into co-existence.
Indeed, here, it's all about belief. It is a tribute to the first travellers, in
cabins too small for their bodies. Modesty begins here, when the compositions,
however beautiful, turns out very small from above. One of the major themes in
this album is palpable on the instrumental jam Bist du correct. It has more
free-jazz than krautrock, and it’s his final über-sound.
This issue of elevation can be found precisely in the
One switch to collision story, born from the meeting of a dozen teenagers in a
Parisian cellar. A basement, rather, that of Oliver's shop, who since then has
become the singer for the band, and whose basement sees the band every Saturday
afternoon. That same basement, a few years later, gave birth to other bands.
Whatever their names are, Turzi, Total Peace, Service or One Switch to
collision, they all come from the same modern mold. Even though the shop has
since closed down, it has nevertheless given birth to the aerial monotheistic
rock movement, which One Switch to collision is a worthy representative of. The
German roots (Faust), cannot by themselves explain the path taken by One Switch
to collision. We need to go back to the past, until Gunther's grandfather (bass
player and band conductor) to understand the fascination for the sonic take-off.
That same grandfather, in olden times was a fighter pilot for the German air
force, who very early on, gave the "above" desire to his
descendents.
Through the dazzling tracks, Korrect reveals in broad
daylight the group's fundamental motivation; corporeal intuition, instrumental
freedom and swinging bodies. A free jazz tension where the words fade slowly at
times, like on the brilliant Four Four and his Modern Lovers fingerboard. Of
course, the fans of Piper at the gates of dawn of Floyd will find their
happiness listening to the long opiated tracks imported from India (K9,
Psychotic Sunday). But it would be quickly forgotten that One Switch to
collision is a modern band with a well built fuselage, whose compositions are
more than just stylistic compositions blending Shoegaze and LSD.
Behind the organ clouds and the transcendental bright
interval chant hides a clear definition of the self psyche. It goes beyond the
notion of individuality and leadership. It contributes to one's instrument to
the common melody, loving Europe for what she has that is most vertiginous. Bend
down to the sky... until the blast
