You'll never guess what we actually accomplished today!!!
WE DROVE A CAR AROUND LOS ANGELES!!!!!
Woohoo!! We finally got the guts to rent a car so we can drive to our dance schools. We were both so scared and kept trying to get the other person to drive... I'm like 'Leez -you got more driving experience!!!"
and she argues.. "May -you're older and wiser!!"
and back and forth but we ended up taking turns driving and navigating which is almost just as hard cos so many streets have the same name and theres so many freeways that intersect and merge and the exits and entrances vary from side to side!
The wheel is on the other side, the direction of the lanes are opposite, nobody uses indicator, everyone speeds and theres a fair lot of road rage.. so i fit in in a way.. i still get confused sometimes when turning- and indicator is on the left so i keep accidentally putting on the wipers- which makes us look extra touristy along with the massive map held up against our face.
The first time i drove i thought i had been clever managing to have just avoided a freeway- when in fact in my attempt to avoid it by swerving to the right lane i had actually accidentally entered it! Liza was trying to calm me down and it wasnt so bad until i nearly gave her a heart attack when i almost hit a motorbiker coming from her side of the car!!!
On the way back when Leez was driving we encounterd a detour and from there we thought we were lost and kept goin round in circles and back to that same detour over and over!! It was so frustrating!! then we realised we werent lost at all and we knew where we were the whole time! Grrrrr...!
Anyway thats just one out of a million stories we already have to laugh at ourselves about!!
With all the trouble i have with road authourities and speed cameras i cant believe there letting me drive in another country!!! HAHA
but mind u theres much worse drivers here.. sometimes the roadrage is so bad apparently there have been cases of road shootings!!!
Anyway were okay -just buggerd from dancing at the moment...
so sleep time!!
I still havent got in touch with relatives- i keep having to leave a msg in their answering machine- but now at least i can leave a contact number! And we havent done any shopping yet but Leez and i are going nuts about the shoes.. espesh..'ly Leeza...
Just quickly - so far we..'ve seen the Hollywood sign, been to Venice Beach (really cool!!!), Santa Monica, Hollywood Boulevard, Sunset boulevard, Walk of fame (the stars on the footpath!), Inglewood, LAX and next week we..'re gonna pay Marissa a visit and the rich white people at Orange County and Laguna Beach!! Oh and we saw Danny Devito and Matthew Broderick and i reckon i saw one of the Wayan brothers - the oldest one, but then theres lots of black people here..
Its always sunny and warm - its fall here right now and thanksgiving is coming up in Nov 23- nver had that before - i wonder what we..'ll do!!
We keep getting songs in our head (mostly rap) everytime we come across a city name or street name that we heard before.. its pretty funny.
We learnt to catch a bus. Guys keep looking our way and smiling and stuff -but not as bad as when they stare in India so we..'re not bothered.
Oh and we..'ve seen a squirrel, and i almost got stung by a bee.
