KEITZER - as the world burns LP (7degrees)
$10Metallic, grindcore from Germany. A
sonic assault and battery from the first blast beat until the end.
Their drummer is pretty fantastic and plays as fast as a tommy gun
emptying cartridge, after cartridge of bullets. Straight-up, no frills,
no bullshit mayhem. No porno, gore or other dubious lyrics are growled
- despite no lyrics being included. If you like your early Earache,
current Crimes Against Humanity styled grind and done really well, then
look no further.

Santa Rosa, CA's
LITANY FOR THE WHALE
exploit a gruffer take on heavy music, surrounding it with wailing
feedback, darkened ambience, and harmonious melodies. The end result is
a chaotic and complex mix of hardcore, punk and post-rock elements,
soaked with devastating levels of distortion, bass, and layered vocals
that draws similarities to Majority Rule, Pg.99, Transistor Transistor,
etc. Their 23+ minute, 7-song EP was recorded at Prairie Sun Studios in
Cotati, CA by Eric Leavell, with mastering handled by Carl Saff at Saff
Mastering in Chicago, IL. Pressed on white vinyl with limited
variations on coke bottle clear w/ black haze from MolSook and
translucent red w/ black haze from The Perpetual Motion Machine. The
record comes packaged in heavy, black and white jackets with beautiful
artwork created by Chris Taylor (Pg99, Pygmy Lush).

M:40
are from Lidköping, Sweden amd bring 12 songs of total fury on their
first ful-length album recorded at Hobo Rec, Jönköping. The songs are
mixed with slower parts, which keeps the record as a whole interesting
and focused. on a prime note; crustpunk has never - and will never be -
better than this. Think TOTALT JÄVLA MÖRKER mixed with NEUROSIS!
myspace.com/m40seMALADIE - s/t LP (great plains/penguin suit) $8
Fast, emotional hardcore from four stand-up gentlemen from Tijuana.
this is the third format i've had of this in the distro. awesome stuff for fans of Ghostlimb, Protestant, etc etc. Melodic yet heavy political hardcore.
like the s/t 7" from a year or so ago, this is absolutely backed.
myspace.com/maladiemaladieMALIGNANCY - inhuman grotesqueries LP (haunted hotel) $8
from
corazine.com -
Malignancy
is a loud offering of controlled chaos. The untrained ear may hear
metallic cacophony but the fine-tuned metal ear will recognize the
manipulations of instruments carrying out this sick songwriting that
crafted this batch of aural antagonism. 'Inhuman Grotesqueries' is
violent social commentary married to a bit of the goregrind aesthetic.
These are more than just lowbrow vomitings of gutmunching lyrics.
Nihilism abounds and there's more than just a little misanthropy on
tap. Naturally loud, fast instrumental contributions shred the eardrums
while grinding vocals punch you in the stomach. Fans of classic
grindcore can indulge their darkest fantasies.
myspace.com/malignancyMARCEL DUCHAMP - contra nosotros mismos LP (les nains aussi)
$10Awesome
diy fast/thrash political punk with an art-damaged edge from Santiago,
Chile. Imagine a hybrid mutant baby between the Minutemen and the Neos.
or Los Crudos and some modern hardcore. Marcek Duchamp are one of
Santiago’s longest running, most cohesive and active bands in the
political punk scene. This is their second full length. Lyrics in
Spanish with English translations provided.

sound like an industrial accident. A very slow one...and a verypainful
one. Probably involving a lathe. And a pair of testicles.Genre:
pessimist sludge (pessimisludge?) with a shit stain of
Hardcore.Recorded in April of this year, this twenty five minute four
track
e.p.is like a crushed ballbag in a dirty factory. Filthy,
agonising, putridspite shite. all flailing about, gnashing your teeth
and pulling out bits of youreczematic sideburns because you've
misplaced your anti-depressantsagain. Samples, screams, riffs,
repressed libidinous energy.
no mercy.
myspace.com/molochscumNEKRASOV - the form of thought from beast LP (siege of power) $8
The
only reason one can speculate why Nekrasov is a self-released album
considering that its brand of towering, infernal, low-fi-yet-epic,
raw-yet-atmospheric, power-electronics/death ambient-spiced
contemporary black metal equals the quality of several bigger names in
this scene, is that the people behind it are trying to stay kvlt.
Thankfully not kvlt enough as this cd found its way to Terrorizer HQ
and to these grateful ears. The band's website, on the other hand,
claims that it is aold out already. The abstract parts on 'The Form….'
Don't feel like atmospheric segues serving as mere introductions to the
bestial tracks, which, in turn, echo classic BM and transcended it with
a killer combination of cavernous treble onslaught, paper thin snares
and mono cymbals juxtaposed on thunderous kick, all forming
unconventional rhythms. One obvious highlight is 'Today The Sun A
Golden Illusion', tumbling down all components compressed into a
singular drone. (TERRORIZER ISSUE 174)
myspace.com/nekrasovgutsNORTHLESS - no quarter for the damaged LP (w/Cd) (halo of flies) $8
-
No quarter for the Damaged
is a beautifully packaged and well-presented record, top to bottom -
from the awesome bi-fold insert containing a CD of the LP material to
sheer quality fo the music itself. The lyric sheet is adorned with
powerful art and a strong presence of thoughtfulness and passion. The
art itself shares a similar aesthetic to releases by fellow
Cheese-heads PROTESTANT, yet NORTHLESS distinguishes themselves as a
separate and dangerous beast on these four songs of sludge, blues, and
metal. i hear elements, if just a bit, of newer-era NEUROSIS, the
better parts of PELICAN, and even slowed-down MASTADON licks
maybe...all while maintaining a solid identity in a popular style. This
is a bulldozer! - check it out!
myspace.com/northlessmilwaukeeOMEGA MASSIF / MOUNT LOGAN - split LP (vendetta) $10
Summit of the two German masters of instrumental post metal/post rock
from North of Bavaria. The former SWITCHBLADE worshippers MOUNT LOGAN
surprise with their turn towards weird Albini-esque noise rock
deconstructions, occasionally even with vocals added. OMEGA MASSIF, as
you would expect from them, once again create a dard, moody and opulent
soundscape with heavy crushing guitars and irresistible killer grooves.
myspace.com/omegamassifmyspace.com/mountloganONE SECOND RIOT - s/t LP (musicfearsatan) $8
Between punk-hardcore and noise-rock, ONE SECOND
RIOT creates its own personal musical area all along these 9 different
tracks, sometimes very agressive, sometimes slow, cold and dark with
samples and programmings that remind of industrial and cold wave tunes. On
the last record track « Clay Mud and Dust », you can hear a very noisy
saxophone. When SHELLAC’s metallic rock collapses with BÄSTARD’s experiments. interesting stuff to be sure.
myspace.com/onesecondriotPREYING HANDS - through the dark LP (inimical) $8
Upon
returning from a European tour late in 2006, Ballast promptly broke up.
3/5th of the band would continue to play together and soon would form
PREYING HANDS including new members whose previous efforts included
Montreal bands Snake Master, Desperate Living and Last Days. The sound
seamlessly blends an odd combination of crust, melodic hardcore and a
touch of pop punk. The powerful female vocals, that lyrically combine
the personal with the political, complete an intense picture.
Production was handled on this debut effort by Mark Lawson (Arcade
Fire, weird...) at the Pines and mastered at Mammoth Sound by Dan
Randall (Limp Wrist, Government Warning). The whole thing is packaged
beautifully with a nice insert and a digital download card.
myspace.com/preyinghandsPROTESTANT - the hate. the hollow. LP (halo of flies/rust and machine/rimbaud) $8
-
The Hate The Hollow
is a killer crust punk/hardcore album from a little known Milwaukee
band. Protestant takes the grit and grime of early crust bands like
Amebix and infuses it with the technicality and raw power of modern
hardcore. The result is an intense storm of grinding riffs, raging
vocals and suffocating bass lines.
myspace.com/protestantmilwaukeePULLING TEETH - paranoid delusions / paradise illusions LP (a389) $8
Pulling
Teeth from Baltimore, MD play fast and furious metal influenced
hardcore. Imagine a cross between Systems Overload-era Integrity and
Left For Dead / Haymaker (mixed with a little Napalm Death/Slayer for
good measure). Features ex-members of Slumlords, The Spark, Desperate
Measures and Never Enough.
fucking good dudes. . p.d./p.i. is heavier, faster, slower and weirder. Comes in gatefold packaging on light blue vinyl!!!
myspace.com/pullingteethmdRAKKAUS - jokainen paiva on tristelua LP (tuska&ahdistus/clovek-levyt/ratas) $10
Barrage of Salt did me a favor a few years ago by releasing this bands two previous Ep's. i got a hold of them somehow and liked them right away. totally catchy in a 'i cant put my finger on it' kind of way. ripping finnish punk, female (and male) vocal-ed and pissed. personal and well as political lyrics, more in touch with actual reality and life than "bombs of crust" nonsense. excellent. like Amebix on speed, raw yet strongly recorded. anthemic in parts even.....i absolutely have a soft spot for these folks!
myspace.com/rakkaushcROT IN HELL - hallways of the always LP (a389) $8
Included are all of the songs from the band's vinyl releases to date –
the 2007 demo 7" (a.k.a. "Sins of Malice"), the "Millennial Psychosis"
split 7" with Brain Dead, the split 7" with Hordes, and "The Works of
Fate" split 7" with The Process – as well as a handful of other tracks
that, for the most part, have yet to be released elsewhere (as far as I
know). As I've discussed here a few times in the past (and am sure to
do again in the future), expect nothing but top-notch metallic hardcore
heavily influenced by the classic "holy terror" sound pioneered by
Integrity, as well as flourishes reminiscent of Ringworm and Gehenna,
alongside their own wickedly raw and explosive aesthetic. You'll find
short, explosive bursts of power chords with loads of tactfully chaotic
leads straight out of the early Integrity handbook, maniacally
screamed/shouted vocals as well as a few cryptic whispers, slower
midpaced rhythms that flirt with darker atmospheres, and searing little
bits of feedback galore. And then there's 8+ minute closer "Now, Today,
Tomorrow, and Always", which heads in an entirely different direction
with beautiful acoustic guitars and faint samples amidst distant,
obscured singing and quivering experimental noise textures. In
addition, this 12-track release contains four of the absolute best
fucking cover songs ever recorded: "Final Word" (Meanstreak), "Kingdom
of Heaven" (Integrity), "Skincrawl" (Ironside), and "Chunks" (Last
Rights).
myspace.com/rotinhellbandRUNNAMUCKS - clawing back LP (six weeks) $6
These
delinquents combine the speed of early-'80s Boston hardcore bands like
Jerrys Kids and The Freeze with the nasty rock of The Stooges and MC5
with a theme rooted in horror movies, providing a lethal dose of rock
and punk.
myspace.com/runnamucksSACRED SHOCK - you're not with us LP (residue) $8
Following
both of their amazing EPs, Sacred Shock (Austin, TX) picks up the
intensity and attacks the senses on this 11 song modern classic.
Featuring members and ex-members of such amazing bands such as HATRED
SURGE, ARMY OF JESUS, IRON AGE, and the YOUNG- Sacred Shock sticks
strong melody and insane hooks and then pile it over with Alex’s
stream-roller vocal style. Striking lyrics dealing with alienation and
blistering anger… it is impossible not to have songs stuck in you head
for days! Nothing short of crushing, masterful, and brutal all wrapped
up in one moment. Do not miss out on this record!
myspace.com/sacredshockatxSALOME - s/t LP (vendetta) $10
Drug-induced and alcohol-fueled heavy stoner slugdecore with thundering
guitars, pounding drums and eerie painful screamed or grunted vocals
from a female vocalist. SALOME take the obligatory SABBATH-influences
in their riffing and transcend them into a monotonous, but no way
lethargic monster that tends between pure hate and some hidden
melancholy. Think of 13 or SOURVEIN as references. Actually
unbelievable that it is only guitar and drums building this massive
wall of sound and that it is an airy lady having this ugly voice from
somewhere deep below. This shit is goddamn HEAVY!"
myspace.com/salomedoomSCUM
NOISE - s/t LP (terrotten/broderkont/starving times) $8
A brand new full
length from Brazillian D-beaters SCUM NOISE brings us nine new tracks
of Swedish inspired D-beat madness plus a cover of DRILLER KILLER's
drunken anthem Alcoholocaust. SCUM NOISE have been playing for some
years now and their previous releases have earned them comparisons to
DOOM and ANTI-CIMEX. These comparisons still hold true on this record
as they continue the general style of angry, (mostly) political songs
with all but one sung in English. The recording production on the LP is
appropriately heavy and has a really full sound comparable to
Scandinavian Jawbreaker. Best enjoyed cranked up to volume 11!
myspace.com/scumnoiseSOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA / CITY OF SHIPS - split LP (ppm) $8
SOUVENIR'S YOUNG AMERICA show a lot of growth since
their Crucial Blast-released album An Ocean Without Water with two new
dark instrumentals that meld heavy, doom-inspired soundscapes with a
slow, western dirge. Florida natives and occasional Richmond residents,
CITY OF SHIPS follow up their criminally under appreciated debut
ep Live Free Or Don't with two more songs of effects-soaked, crunching,
squealing, mathy, heavy rock.
This
second pressing is limited to 175 copies, all on colored translucent
marble vinyl; all are a bit different and unique from one another,
though they've been lumped into three color ways. Packaged in two-color
silkscreened covers with metallic gold ink and black ink on dark grey
stock, inserts, free digital download card, a sealed poly bag and
sticker on the front. Cover artwork by French artist, Arnaud

myspace.com/cityofshipsSPIRES - flowers and fireworks LP (inkblot/the hive)
Spires,
from Oakland, CA, pour their hearts out on this LP, with ten tracks of
heavy and melodic hardcore that move seamlessly between hushed tones,
spacy guitar riffs and crushing torrents of sound, similar to the
sounds of bands like Envy and Burial Year.
myspace.com/spiresatwarTAINT - secrets and lies DLP (superfi)
$10With an attack that recalls the monolithic precision of Helmet and the
epic, crushing heaviness of the Melvins, Welsh brutalizers Taint are
often lazily tagged "stoner" or "doom" metal, but there's too much bile
and blood spilled in the course ... of
SECRETS AND LIES to pigeonhole them like that. In fact, by the end of
the album, you're more likely to be lightheaded from extreme cardio
headbanging than from any kind of burning leaves. Heavy rants like "Hex
Breaker" are as unstoppable as a Sherman Tank. You can see it coming,
but it rolls over you just the same.
myspace.com/taintukthe THIRD MEMORY - et de cela rjen ce ressort LP (icfyc/roklok)
French
emoviolence with a huge handful of melodies, think La Quiete and
Tristan Tzara mixed with some old-style emotional moments and, may i
add this, they rock like hell. Far away from classical french screamo
sound. New classics come like that. packaged in a nice screenprinted
cover. very nice!!
myspace.com/thethirdmemoryTHE THIRD MEMORY - s/t LP (sadnessofnoise/roklok/more)
$10After
a long delay, finally The Third Memory's follow up to "Et de cela rien
ne ressort"is here. While most bands have been reduced to manufactured,
caricature-like chaos and screams, The Third Memory proves that there
is true energy, and passion remaining hardcore. Taking nods from bands
such as La Quiete , Tristan Tzara and Orchid, The Third Memory create
brand of hardcore that is chaotic yet hypnotically beautiful. Frantic
screams against a backdrop of wavering guitar sounds and propulsive
drumming.
myspace.com/thethridmemoryTHOU - the retaliation of the immutable force of nature 12" (gilead) $8
Since
the release of their debut full length 'Tyrant,' THOU have mounted
their warhorse and begun a righteous crusade to proclaim themselves the
inarguable champions of today's Doom & Sludge scene! "The
Retaliation" takes the final two tracks from 'Tyrant' (that won't
appear on the Southern Lord LP of 'Tyrant') and puts them a side a
piece on this 45 RPM slab of awesomeness. "What Blood..." shows Thou in
their darkest and most abrasive, riffs so slow and chunky you could
bludgeon a zombie to death with them. The B-side, "Acceptance," is a
polar opposite of the A. An Instrumental track showcasing the true
dynamic qualities of THOU! Melodic swooping guitar parts, thickly
layered post-something-or-other composition. Shit rules, for real.
myspace.com/thoubandUNQUIET - this is darkness descending LP (contraszt!/behindthescenes/synalgie)
$10the amazing debut LP by UNQUIET from Berlin. They deliver 11
songs of dark and pounding midtempo d-beat HC that in some parts evokes
a comparision to Fall of Efrafa, in others to Bombenalarm, but that is
still discrete and outstanding.
myspace.com/weareunquietVITAMIN X - full scale assault LP (tank crimes)
After touring throughout the world, Dutch hardcore punk giants Vitamin
X return with their first recorded output in 3 years. Finally capturing
the manic aggression of their notorious live shows while truely
showcasing their songwriting skills and musicianship. VX take their
furious hardcore sound even further into the realms of 70's rock
riffage and wild guitar solos, never letting up on the high energy
thrash punk. Recorded and Engineered at Electrical Audio Studios in
Chicago by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Neurosis) it has an enormous sound.
The album features lead vocals by Negative Approach's John Brannon on 2
songs and amazing artwork by John Baizley (Baroness, Pig Destroyer).
This is a serious hardcore masterpiece. LP packaged in a gatefold
jacket including printed card stock dust sleeve insert and gatefold
poster.
myspace.com/vitaminxhcWARTORN - tainting tomorrow with the blood of yesterday LP (PE/CAH/Vex) $6
The
much anticipated second full length release from one of the most active
DIY punk bands in existence. Contained herein are ten raging tracks of
brutal hardcore with influences that range from 80's American hardcore,
Scandinavian d-beat thrash, and modern crustcore, including their own
unique take on classics from POISON IDEA and STATE OF FEAR. Four of
these tracks were previously released in 2007 as the limited edition
Prey for Salvation EP that sold out in a matter of days, the others are
totally brand new but in the same style and production. As with all
WARTORN releases to date, the cover is beautifully illustrated by
Marald, who raises the bar on quality work once again.
myspace.com/wartornwisconsinWHAT IF GODS LIE - third world (despotic)
$5Ex
HOG members from Mexico City playing angry political crustpunk (lyrics
in both Spanish and English). Musically they are heavy, down-tuned
crust with growled vocals - pretty closely capturing the classic sounds
of late 80's crust/punk crossover bands like DOOM and ENT. There is
also a hint of the more modern, tuneful influences of TRAGEDY and
friends which, coupled with a excellent recording quality, really makes
for an exciting and not enitrely predicatble release. This is their
first full length, hot on the heels of their great split CD with ALL
SYSTEMS FAIL.
myspace.com/whatifgodslie WORMSBLOOD - masters of creation LP (barbarian)
Known
for his work in the popular proto doom act Jex Thoth and from his own
power electronics outfit Burial Hex, Clay Ruby ventures in a different
direction this time. An album of outsider metal, it's sparse and bleak,
but rumblings, clanging and tortured cries erupt violently throughout.
A very unhinged and dangerous album. Comparisons could be drawn to
Armanenschaft, Blood of the Black Owl & the True Werwolf, both
musically, as well as in the sense those bands also use black metal as
a foundation to explore darker, more experimental avenues.
myspace.com/wormsbloodZODIAC - rasierter affe 10" (7degrees/amplified anger)
5 tracks of intense raging hardcore from bremen, germany.
a
furious bastard of 90's style Bremen and US HC ala Uranus, Rorschach,
etc with a healthy dose of metal. dark german lyrics packed into a very
nice 12pg booklet.
brutal.
myspace.com/zodiacv/a - BARRIKADEN LP (nakkeskudd plater/sjakk matt plater/more)
$10barrikaden is a squatted building in
oslo, norway and has been around for ten years now. its been one of the most
important scenes in oslo, and norway as a whole since it started. from stian/nakkeskudd plater:
"i
know i have a lot of good memories about this place, playing, drinking,
taking pictures, selling records and so on. so when i was asked to
participate on this release, to mark this milestone, it was a
no-brainer for me. the concept is simple: gather good bands and good
friends that has played at barrikaden. one norwegian side and one international side." bands: hevn, black blood world, bøyen beng, victimised, 2:20, summon the crows, civil victim, avskum, skarpretter, juggling jugulars, sotatila, pest fest.
a good mix of punk / hc bands and some of the best from the area.
another great regional comp!!
