HELLO FRIENDS!  We thought it was high time that we posted a new song.
"Congratulations (I Suppose)" is another woefully sad song from the pen of our piano player, Gregg Wetzel (LOL). Although Gregg allegedly finds inspiration for these tragic tales from experiences in his own life, he's really a happy person  - heck, he used to play in The Good Humor Band (as well as The Nighthawks, Tracy Nelson, Reba McIntire, etc). In spite of that, the lyrics in this slice of Gulf Coast Swamp Pop could bring a tear to a glass eye.
As we are a musical revue, we like to feature (along with our singers, Frankie, Jerry, Amyl, Cat & Cindy) - the occasional special guest vocalist - and this time, we have a good-un: Mr. Eddy Raven.
Although Eddy Raven is probably best known for the eight number one (and 14 more top-ten) records he placed on the Country charts, his music is also steeped in the rock, Cajun and Blues he heard, growing up in Lafayette, Louisianna. Back in the day, he worked with great regional stars such as Professor Longhair, Dr, John, Dale and Grace and Bobby Charles. An admirer of Bobby Blue Bland and Houston's Duke Records' sound, Eddy also fronted the "blue-eyed soul" horn bands, The Boogie Kings, The Swing Kings and worked with bluesmen, Johnny and Edgar Winter.
With this recording, The Rosedale Rhythm Revue is bringing Eddy back to the swamp!
We're delighted to include this song on our forthcoming CD - and here, on MySpace. ENJOY!
